Oily cysts or recurrence ?

Hi all,
im posting on behalf of my sister and wonder if any of you can offer support/advice or anything that might help her get through a long 24 hours. My sister was diagnosed with BC 2 years ago and had a lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy and is now on 5 yrs of tamoxifen. It’s been emotionally charged for all of us but especially her as mum was diagnosed with secondary bc last October ( before the primary cancer was found- quite A shock) and my sister is now her primary carer as well as going through genetic testing as that makes at least five women on the same side of the family with a history of BC.

during all this my sister has amazed me and just got on with things but recently she found a lump just as mum had been diagnosed. They did an u/s and told her that it was an oily cyst and nothing to be done. That was in December Last. However the lump has been growing and its hard and painful so my sister went back and saw someone today. The doctor didnt have the best people skills and after making her wait for two hours coz the clinic was running late, told her he really didnt know what it was but she should have an ultrasound straight away. Then told her the screening clinic was now closed! So she has to go back tomorrow afternoon.
My sister sobbed down the phone to me and I can tell its all getting too much. She doesn’t feel up to posting on here right now but agreed for me to do it and see if I could get any support for her.

Obviously, she’s worried about recurrence but also she says its really painful and they were talking of doing a mammogram which she is now terrified of. Does anyone else have experience of post surgical oily cysts? She says she can’t bear the pain of this and the doctor said if it is an oily cyst they will leave it alone.
any thoughts, support etc I could share with her would be apappreciated thanks all

Not showing up on new posts. Bump

Sorry she is having this worry. At least she only has one day to wait to get it done (I know 24 hours seems like 24 years when you are that anxious!).

I’m mainly posting to bump this to the top as I expect most of the UK girls will be in bed by now!

Thanks Morwenna x

Sorry that your sister is having to go through this, I haven’t had any experiance of this but bumping it up so its at the top of page :). Have they given a reason why they won’t remove the cyst. If its getting bigger and causing pain surely they should take it out. Wishing your sister all the best for this afternoon and best wishes for your mum too.

Thanks Mel,
no reprieve as yet. They did an ultrasound and its still inconclusive. They are concerned as the tissue has grown so quickly. She now has to wait for an MRI. No indication of when its going to be- only that she won’t have to wait long. Meanwhile my mum has her checkup in the same clinic on Thursday to assess the spread of her secondaries. It’s just relentless. As many of you saI on here- the waiting is the worst part.

Oh you poor things. My heart is aching today for every one of us in this horrible club! :frowning:

Thanks Morwenna.
agreed- just wish for the day someone finds a cure
my mum doing ok. Sister still waiting. And then of course, when my sis gets her genetic test results back its my turn to be tested. But at the moment just focussing on my sister.
