One week ago I had my second blast and am just picking up. Have had the red wee, chemo glow, constipation, nausea (last two still fighting the battle for supremacy) jelly legs andd tiredness however…
My skin is fantastic!! The head may be bald but boy is the skin smooth. I have a dressing table covered in the usual lotions and potions for my face, which is often a problem, and I don’t just mean to look at! But I don’t need them. Smooth sleek and soft - what can I say there had to be some benefit somewhere, this is my little silver lining to get me out of bed today, anyone got any more silver linings?

I had chemo three years ago and my silver lining is that my hair has grown back better than it was before I lost it! It’s thicker, shinier and there are NO grey ones (which there were before!!). So hopefully, it will be the same for you. Meanwhile, good luck with the rest of your treatment and over three years on from diagnosis, I can honestly say that life does become normal again, albeit a new kind of normal!

great thread this!! My silver lining is that although I ‘lost’ my eyebrows and eyelashes for a couple of weeks they have grown back more lucious and longer than ever!!

Yes, good thread! Apart from shrinking bunions, I’m also pretty sure that my skin is looking smoother than usual. dina rabinovitch mentions the postive effect of chemo on skin in her book.
Good news about your eyebrows and lashes kelly - I’m still waiting for mine to drop out…I’m pretty sure they will - my hair is 95% gone.x

I have had a few ‘silver lining’ moments I guess - does help!!!

  1. Insurance paid out for critical illness cover
  2. Taxotere is stopping me eating so much, as my mouth feels so sh*t
  3. My fave uncle is taking me to London for the weekend in November to see Mamma Mia

My silver lining is also skin very much improved.
Fantastic friends that are sharing this with me.
A hubby who is being wonderful.
And Kids that have not changed in anyway, and are taking all this cr*p in their stride!!!
And malteezers!!! Plenty of them!!!

I am jealous! My skin is rubbish!! Have spots like a 14 year old…yucky!
But, my silver linings would be

  • critical illness cover paid out
  • Planning lovely trip to New York with hubby and my lovely in-laws have just told us they’ve paid for our hotel as a surprise
  • Friends and family, having more time with them as not working
  • Oh and of course my little kittens we got to cheer me up

So not all bad, am just bald pizza!

My silver lining is;

  1. lost much needed 10 lbs (with worry at dx)
  2. have had reconstruction with a larger implant, so next year when i get my nipple surgeon will fil the implant to full capacity and then make healthy breast match. From B to large C.
  3. Have discovered through hair loss that should have stopped dying my hair blonde because now have a waist length brown wig which has turned me into a real head turner. (chemo not destroying my modesty cells, but sod it amongst friends)
  4. have discovered that OH definately loves me in sickness and health. (when wig and clothes come off, not so stunning, especially with my hickman dangling)
  5. Day after chemo, I throw all day. Great no calories!

My skin is also megga soft and smooth, initially it went really dry, a bit like sandpaper… and I had a facial and haven’t look back since !!

Another silver lining, I suppose, my critical illness cover which we didn’t realise we had and was paid out promptly; and my sweet tooth is non existant and my teeth are wonderfully white and gleaming ! I can walk past Greggs and resist temptation.

Still miss the hair though … not long now, last chemo tomorrow.
