Has anyone had different opinions from their oncologist and surgeon?? Or been aware of a power struggle between the two? I feel caught in the middle here and wonder if it’s the norm? Any comments welcome.
Cheers
Coleen
Hi Coleen
I haven’t had that experience as I beleive that mine work in a MDT that is very sucessful. I hated my surgeon’s bedside manner and his team were unable to answe my questions at check ups so with a small amount of resistance I have been able to see my lovely onc for all my check ups.
take care

Yes!
So I got a second pinion from another surgeon, and he agreed with my onc.
Have always well looked after by my onc. He referred me for second opinion to The Marden when I asked and they too agreed I have had the best of care.

No, but radiologist told me I didnt need chemo then oncologist told me I would benefit from chemo! Surgeon made no comment. Zoe
Hi Colleen, sorry you are having problems with the medical team
Mine work well together and both respect each others speciality because they are completely different,
MDT wokring is what it is all about

Thanks for all your comments. Funny thing is my surgeon is the one who is very helpful. its the onc who seems threatened by him offering me advice. At first it seemed I didnt need chemo, That decision has been changed. So, I am only having contact with the onc now. But there certainly is an atmosphere between them. I think its because they are in different counties + she feels threatened by his wanting to start a cancer unit in this area. Nevertheless its doesn’t make me feel that I’m her priority. All this because he made a suggestion! As if life isnt difficult enough at present! Oh! well The sooner its over the bett. Roll on September.
Best wishes to you all

Hi Coleen
My consulant/breast surgeon did tell me that I wouldn’t need radio therapy just chemo and I thought great news, but when I saw the Oncologist he said I needed the whole thing chemo radio for 3 weeks heciptin for 1 year and tax for 5 years. so that would mean I would have to have 1 1/2 year of treatment constant hopsital visits but I looked at it in this way time is irrevelant my health life and family are more important . but I am happy to take everything that they throw at me.
Good luck
Sharon
