oncotype Dx test

hi

im 30yrs was diagnosed as having breast cancer on 10th February. I had surgery the following week to remove the lump and some lymph nodes. Lump was 17 mm stage 1 grade 3 hadn’t spread to surrounding tissue or nodes. Was told by the consultant that after having their review meeting I would need chemo followed by radiotherapy and hormone therapy. was given all the info about what to expect with chemo possible side effects and stuff along with how to get my wig. Due to being young and not having any children already I decided to go ahead with fertility treatment and freeze my eggs as a back up in case the chemo and hormone therapy effected my infertile. Was meant to meet with the oncologist on the 24th March but got pushed back twice so finally went today thinking I would be finally given a date to start my treatment only to be told they now want to do the oncotype Dx test to see if I would benefit from having chemo so now there might be a chance that I would need chemo which I know is good news but can’t help feeling a bit fed up and confused as i felt I had just got my head round having to go through chemo to be now told I might not have to have it. Just feel like I’m in limbo a bit as now need to wait for these test to come back I have already waited 6 weeks after my surgery to get to speak to the oncologist so surely these tests should have been done prior to just now. Has anyone else experienced having to wait for this test how long did it take for results?

Hi, I had had a mastectomy end Oct 2015, I had 8mm G3 sentinel node was clear. I had the Oncotype test, tissue was sent to America approx 2 weeks after op, results should have taken 2 weeks, they did take nearly 4 weeks as lab in California was going through a busy time. My score came back at 38 therefore chemo recommend, followed by hormone medication. I had 4 cycles of Doxetacil & Cylophsphamide. I didn’t need radiotherapy probably because I had a. mastectomy.

Hope this helps.

Hi

I’m 47 and was diagnosed on 16th November, my lump was Grade 3 also and Breast Surgeon recommended lumpectomy, removal of some lymph nodes for testing followed by radiotherapy and hormone treatment. He talked about chemo but was reluctant to say I would definitely need it but mentioned the oncotype DX test. I had my surgery to remove the tumour (26mm) and 3 lymph nodes on 17th December. On 24th December the results came back that my lymph nodes were clear and they had got a clear margin around the tumour when removing so samples would go off to California for oncotype ex. Despite being over the Christmas & New Year period I got my results 3 weeks later on 13th January. My score was 65 so there were no doubts that I’d get chemotherapy. I first met my oncolgist on 19th January and my first session was 29th January. He recommended 4 sessions of TC (Docetaxal & Cyclophosphamide).

It’s had its ups and downs but I have my last session this morning yay!!! Will start rads & tamoxifen in about 3 weeks time.

Wishing you all the best.

Thanks for sharing your experiences hopefully the results will come back on the quickerside as hate all the waiting about and the unknown. Think I’m going to phone the breast cancer nurse and get some clarification just feel a bit frustrated to be told one thing to now be told something else don’t understand why this test hasn’t been done before now. xxx
