Ooperectomy

Just wondered if anyone could tell me what the above entails. Im 41 pre menapausal and have new primary diagnosis 3 years after first. Both tumors ER+ and had new tumor despite taking Tamoxifen so onc is looking at the permanent removal of ovaries after a medically induced menapause for a few months so that my body can get used to it. Just wondered what the op entailed, will i need time off work, and how you deal with menapause symtoms as you cant take the usual HRT etc to help. Any info would be greatfully recd.

Hi F1Fan

Sorry to hear of your new primary.

I had this op by keyhole in July. I had been on tamoxifen and zoladex for 15 months prior to op (and am still on tamox until 2 years menopausal).

They removed my ovaries and tubes as a day case, in at 8am, down to theatre at 10.30am and home by 2.30pm. I was uncomfortable after the op, especially from the gas they use for the keyhole but this didnt last long. I even managed to get to my sons parents eve that night!

Recovery was very quick, I was driving 3 days later and felt normal after about a week.

As for the menopause, the effects for me are no different from what i already had from the zoladex and tamoxifen - just a few mild flushes each day.

Being 36 and 100% for both hormones, i am very glad i was offered this op.

All the best xx
