OPERATION ON 19TH NOVEMBER

Am feeling strangely relaxed about my operation. I am either in denial or cannot take it all in. Have to have a blue dye inserted in my breast and have to go to a breast clinic for a wire and then on to the hospital where the lumpectomy is to be done. Funny thing is am feeling so well. Am not tired or in any pain, have no visible lumps or puckering and everything seems normal. Thing is after my op I am going to feel poorly and have to have 3-5 weeks radiotherapy and probably follow up appointments. Many mountains to climb and juggle life too but then all you girls know what I mean! Am off to a support group tomorrow and am looking forward to meeting other bc ladies and hoping to get some positive feedback as well as offering it. good luck to everyone. am thinking of you all. xx

Hi springblossom,
I think the mind has a great way of coping, I had the same op, with the dye and wire inserted, I am 4 weeks post op, and am feeling ok, I was a little tired for about 2 - 3 weeks, everyone is different and recovers at different rates, use the time before your op to get things on place shopping etc. I was a little scared about the wire thing, its was uncomfortable but not too bad, good luck for the 19 th. X

hi crazy cat lady

thank you for your advice - i thought i would get my shopping in and get my home sorted to prepare for the weeks ahead.

Went to my support group and found it very enlightening. the ladies were all so warm and friendly and all of them were post op, some for many years. it was an inspiring experience and has helped loads. they all seemed to have a new perspective on life as i do. will be back after the 19th to compare notes and also to be of help to others.xx

Hi crazy cat I had the same op as you with the blue dye four weeks ago and the waiting was the worst part. Still feeling tired but it improves every day. Appt with oncologist tomorrow hopefully will get date for my rads due to start taking tamoxifen in two weeks time. My house was never as clean as while I was waiting for op as it keeps your mind off thigs! Good luck for the 19th.

Hi springblossom,
Glad you enjoyed your support group, not sure I’m quite ready for that yet, being on here is enough for me, but we are all different. sending hugs your way for the 19th,will look forward to hearing how you get on, you can do this, just take one day at a time, rest when you need to come on here and ‘chat’ if you need support, someone is always ‘listening’.

Hey Eileen, hope your appt goes ok today, thinking of you ((hugs)), I’m going for planning session on Mon, hopefully starting rads a week later (26th), and will start tamoxifen as soon as my gp receives a letter from the onc! - off to clean again!! I’m becoming a domestic goddess! LOL

Hi all - my appt with oncologist was a bit of a non event they just told me what would happen and asked me to sign consent form. I could have done that last time I was there. I have to wait for Addenbrookes to contact me as that is where treatment will take place. The only good thing was I said I was worried about the drive (3and half hours return trip) when its every day thats a lot if you feel tired and I have no one to take me hubby died in May - family all live away. So she said she would arrange transport for me-one less thing to worry about. Just more waiting until I hear.
