I started buying organic stuff when I was diagnosed as I was concerned about parabens, sodium laurel sulphite and chemicals in stuff. I found a great web site in
At first glance their products don’t look particularly cheap, but they last for ages. They do everything, from shampoo and conditioners, deodorants, bubble bath/shower gel, body lotion and are just starting a line in cosmetics, kicking off with lipsticks.
They have an ‘organic base’ range and I found the body lotion particularly useful during radiotherapy.
I still use it now, nearly 3 years on. Did anyone else find they wanted to use this type of stuff too?
Yes. I, too, have started to use organic lotions and potions.I think that because I’ve started to become more aware of what I put into my body foodwise then it makes sense to be careful what I put onto my body too. One or two people have implied that this is silly - a case of more money than sense - especially because of the cost of organic products. But, hey, I’m doing what feels right for me.
I’ve been using the Green People range since I was diagnosed Dec 06 and find it really good. I also used the organic base body lotion during radiotherapy. When my hair started to grow back I developed quite bad dandruff so I started to use their Rosemary shampoo/conditioner which has helped. My hair is at the course, ‘brillo pad’ stage at the moment and has a mind of it’s own so I’m using their Aloe Vera Styling Gel to tame it. It’s vey good and I’ve been complimented on my,as yet, very short hair which is such a morale booster. I have also bought some of the new Origins Organics range. Have you tried it?
Because of what has happened to me, I find that my two teenage daughters are much more aware of the chemicals contained in their beauty products and are more selective in what they buy.
I also use green people and also pure lakes which are a new lot but do some rather nice things but they’re so new that you won’t find them much outside cumbria but they are online and list their ingredients.
I have ton confess that I do know Sandra and Ian who run the operation and will be trying to convince them to make a special insect repellent for those of us at risk of lymphodeoma (we have a *lot* of midges up here).
Oh looks like my requests have been met must email them to say thanks:
Thanks Vertangie, useful info re Insect Repellent. I also am careful what moisturisers etc I use and trying to educate my 13 year old daughter. Going to look at web site you recommended.
I researched as many Organic skincare companies as I possibly could when Mum went through Chemo#2, and found it pays to read the ingredient list very carefully, as many claim to be organic when they only have one or two organic ingredients. The one 100% organic company I found to be honest and ethical is
Too much to mention here but the website is worth a visit to read all the fascinating info, even if you don’t wish to buy, but just compare the ingredients to other ‘organic’ products. They even do a household cleaner - how it works is fascinating! For our family though, the In-liven superfood probiotic is unbeatable. It was through this company that we learnt how to read product labels and in turn make informed choices about all products from all companies. Definitly worth a look. Oh, and I think they do a repellent!!
Welcome to the forums. I am sending you this private message to let you know I have edited your post to remove the weblink you gave. This is in accordance with the Breast Cancer Care terms and condition, point number 7 which states " Breast Cancer Care does not link to any third party site other than recognised registered charities or relevant partners, and will not endorse any site for which they cannot ensure either reliability of information or confidentiality of users".
This is a bit frustrating isn’t it. Not being able to give links to sites that have products.
I did put a link in but it has been removed due to the rule of:
“Breast Cancer Care does not link to any third party site other than recognised registered charities or relevant partners, and will not endorse any site for which they cannot ensure either reliability of information or confidentiality of users”
If you google for the words pure lakes you’ll find them and they do have a full ingredients list.
I understand the purpose of the rule but do find it frustrating as a lot of us are here to find information and links rather help with that
Indeed, surely it is the poster who is endorsing a particular website based on personal experience, it isn’t BCC endorsing it! Oh well, google to the rescue, just a long way round. Thanks for the introduction to these products. Lyn x
Another good range of paraben etc free cosmetics is dr hausshka - you can find it on google. They deliver and are very efficient. The starter packs are a good way of seeing if they suit you
