Our new BCC website

Hi all,

As you may have already seen, we have just launched our brand new-look website. What do you think? It looks very different to what was there before and hopefully offers loads of extra functions too. breastcancercare.org.uk

For the moment, the community is going to stay the same and the website changes aren’t going to affect the forums just yet. We want to test the rest of the website first to identify any potential problems before it affects the forum. We don’t want to take any risks really, so we’ll be thoroughly checking to make sure everything works.

So, the website is up and running and we’d appreciate you having a look around and seeing what you think. When we know everything is in good working order, we’ll be making the changes to the online community section too.

James has written up a few details about the new website here (breastcancercare.org.uk/news/blog/welcome-your-new-website) where you can leave your feedback and tell us what you think.

Best wishes,
Mike

It’s very late and I’m off to sleep soon but I had to say just one thing upon looking at the index page.

Thank you thank you thank you

  • for making the main colour purple and less of that bl**dy fluffy pink!

The more fluffy pinkness there is, the more that folk think and say and believe “breast cancer is always curable these days”.

It’s a nasty, insidious disease that is only curable sometimes.

to be quite honest i never realy used the main site. found the forums on google and stick with those. However i have used and recommended the publications, and always found it very hard to find those on the main site… just had a little experiment and found them very quickly-- so thats a big improvement. And I agree with ninja. Must more positive colouring rather than the “poor little delciate me, feel sorry for me pink”

It looks very smart and professional. I used the information on the main website a lot long before I joined the forums and found it a real help. Hopefully the new front page will enable easier navigation for people new to the site.

I too like the new colour scheme

Very well done! The new format is a HUGE improvement on the old which used to drive me nuts. The colour is great - looks like you really did listen to our comments this time.

I agree with everyone, ditch the fluffy pathetic pink, that says “poor little me” We want to be a strong band of women we dont want “feel sorry for me pink”

Hi just wanted to say I agree with everything that has been said, particularly about the colour .

Is it just me or is it difficult to get to the Forum page/s without going through the Log-In screen? This will put off potential users or people after information if they can’t just view the posts like we used to.
I’ve tried to send a comment to the link Mike BCC gave but I’m not sure if it went through so I’ve added this here.
Otherwise it’s looking good, if a bit slow

How do you get to the forum?

The opening page looks good, good colour, but I’ve been having trouble getting through to the forum today. The links don’t always seem to work. Is this bugs in the new site, or just heavy traffic because it’s new?

I would certainly like a more prominent entry to the forum. That’s why I keep coming back!

I agree, I stuggled to find the forum today - it needs to be prominent

Hi all,

Thanks for your feedback so far. Due to the changes, the forum has been a little bit slow this morning, but hopefully that is all sorted now (fingers crossed).

When you land on the homepage, there is a purple navigation bar at the top with headings “Breast cancer information”, “Breast cancer services” etc. The third title is ‘Community’ and if you click on this, it will take you straight through to the forum homepage. We also wanted to make it really easy to get to the online community section so we made sure it is at the top of every page on our site.

Please keep the feedback coming and I’ll make sure the website team read all your comments.

Best wishes,
Mike

I think the website looks so much better. Agree with others that the purple is great and it also makes the site easier to read (a better contrast with white or light lettering). I’ve just had a look at the breast cancer information section and that seems easier to navigate now too. Elinda x

Hi, I agree with everyone - the site is easier to navigate and the publications are much easier to find. Thank you all for all the hard work you have put in to this.
I hope the forum move goes smoothly next time

Hi Mike

First of all I love the new format. Looks really brilliant. Love the colour too although I’m not against pink.

The only prob for me is that I find the forums difficult to get too off the home page. There doesn’t seem to be a genera; ‘Forum’ area just some of the categories which you have to go into before you can get to ‘Latest posts’.

Maybe it’s me being thick but I though I’d just mention it.

Thanks for your hard work.

Jan

Hi Mike - Ive not had time to look at the the site yet - looking forward to exploring…
When you revamp the Forums, can you put a spell check on the system. I am dyslexic and hate not being able to check the sppellinngsss before I post. I know I can do it in Word and then copy and paste - but it is hassle!! Just something to think about??
Thx

Hi everyone.

Thanks for your really lovely feedback, reading your comments was a nice end to a rather tiring week. We’ve taken everything you’ve told us on board, and we’ll continue to do so - especially when we move the forums over.

Thanks
James

Any date yet for the forums to be moved over? I can’t wait to be rid of the awful pink - it’s driving me nuts!

Since the site got an update, I’m finding that I need to log in every verse end - before it was maybe once a day.

Now, I can be logged in, post a message on a thread and get kicked off immediately and need to log in to continue; it’s not like I’ve left the screen unattended or anything.
It happens several times a day

Anyone else?

Hi Ninja,
yes it happens to me too. I tend to log out when I go away from here (a forlorn attempt to kick the addiction) but sometimes I comment on one thread then move to another and have to log in again. It’s not predictable or logical, so I can’t say ‘when I do x’ it happens, all a bit random really…
