Ovaries out - am I now post menopausal?

Hello everyone -
I am 43 and have ER++ grade 3 IDC - just had nodes removed and they got rid of my ovaries too while I was in there.
My question is - do you think I will now be regarded as post-menopausal and be treated accordingly?
Sorry if this is an idiotic question - blame it on the anaesthetic!

Hi Molly, yes i had my ovaries out too, so yes, you should be post menopausal, i also had a total hysterecomy whilst i was at it, did you have that as well?

Hi Alison -

No just the ovaries and tubes - and my nodes - that was enough for one day!
Are you having any chemo/hormonal treatment?

i am on arimidex at the moment, though not doing too well on it, am waiting to see what the surgeon says, i don’t bother with an onc anymore, i had mine out in dec last year, but had my other surgery last june/july, i didn’t get offered chemo

hi alison and molly
i had mastectomy and node clearance back in feb and was told at same time i was post men and put on taxoxifen but have kept bleeding really bad. so i have now to get an op called an oopherectomy(spelling) and put on to armidex. alison how are you finding it, i have put on a lot of weight with the tamoxifen and am really snappy and grumpy, i just hope the change helps.

Hi Maria, it was because i didn’t get chemo that i kicked up a fuss to get the ovaries out, so the gyni took the rest as well for good measure, as i only had it done just before xmas well, i am not sure what is worse, the arimdex or the menopause, but am hoping to come off the arimidex if the surgeon gives the ok for me to stop it, as my joints ache so much, and the hot sweats and flushes have not subsided any, so will keep you updated on that, i am hoping to hear today. as to the op, well, its not a long op and i felt fine afterwards, so surgery there was never an issue for me. i don’t think i have put any weight on though which is good. i still get what feels like pmt when i would have been due on, but that could be mind over matter lol
