pain and swelling anyone?

I was diagnosed with DCIS because I went to my GP with pain and swelling in my left breast - I reckon it had gone up by at least 2 cup sizes in a few months.

My cousin had BC in 1999 and although a genetic cause was ruled out, it’s made me pretty paranoid ever since. Because of my anxiety my GP suggested I go privately for a mammogram to put my mind at ease. This picked up a large area of calcification, which turned out after biopsy to be high grade DCIS.

Subsequently all the health professionals have told me that my pain and swelling has nothing to do with what was found and was purely a coincidence. But I wonder… has anyone else had similar symptoms? I’m glad that I listened to my body, but v daunted at prospect of mastectomy and reconstruction.

Incidentally, have also had a huge amount of stress in last year. Was off work with stress after being bullied and harassed at work.

Hi Deborah

Interestingly, my affected DCIS boob was also quite a bit larger than the other (no pain), but just put this down to change in hormone levels caused by the menopause. How wrong was I!

Sorry about your stress. This may well have had something to do with your dx,

Hope all goes well with the op.

Hi Deborah

My dcis was finally diagnosed earlier this year after 18 months of me telling them there was something wrong and them not listening…i had lots of pain where the 5cm + area of dcis was and you could see the mass…no swelling tho…have now had mastectomy and diep recon and love the outcome…having other boob lifetd to match boob too…actually my bod looks better post dcis than b4 thanx to tummy tuck…and hopefully 2 pert boobs …good luck

V interested to hear both your experiences. Maybe the professionals should be listening to us!

Am meeting consultant in next county tomorrow to discuss mastectomy, DIEP and reduction on unaffected breast (I’m 34 HH) as this procedure can’t be done in mine. Glad to hear that you’ve has such a positive outcome from surgery.
