Pain months after lumpectomy

I had pain in my left breast in spring of 2011…it was the pain that led the doctor to refer me to get a mammogram. They said that the pain was unrelated to the cancer, but after I had a lumpectomy in Nov. of 2011, the pain was gone. Began chemo began in January. Now it is May, and I am almost done with chemo. Feeling regular pain again in the same breast, as well as a phantom feeling of wetness. Meaning, I feel as if the breast is leaking, but it is not. Doctor says it is probably scar tissue, the incision healing, etc. But I am worried the cancer is returning…anyone else had a similar problem?

Hi NeeluSorry to hear you are still having problems. I had a lumpectomy and full node clearance 6 years ago. For nearly 4 years after surgery I often had pain in my affected breast. I called it my voodoo pain as it was just as if someone was sticking a knitting needle into my side. When I told the consultant he informed me it was common to have pain as it was nerves repairing and that I should be happy to be alive!!! I must admit the pain is very rare now but can still catch me out. The advice I was given was to massage the breast when it hurt to ease the pain and stimulate the nerve endings. The class watched with intrest as I did this while going through addition on the board. (Only joking).
