Just had my first Docetaxol nearly 3 weeks ago ,due next one Tuesday , from day after had severe joint pain and by Saturday had developed a temperature ended , up in overnight , only thing that helped the pain when in was morphine . .what advice can anyone give me .xx
Hi Trish1109,
Doxetaxol is a tough one I’m afraid but very good at zapping any cancer cells so I’ve been told! I’m a bit further on than you and finished my chemo 6 weeks ago but I had the drug for the last 3 cycles of my treatment and the first time I too had terrible joint and muscle pain so you have my sympathy; it is very tough to deal with. When I saw the doc before my 2nd dose they prescribed anti histamine tablets (one a day) and this really helped as the pains and other symptoms (I had rashes/itching/catarrh as well) were considerably less and much easier to deal with. Hopefully it may be of similar help for you.
best wishes,
LittleLily
I had this chemo in 2012 and Tramadol really helped with the joint pain. It is apparently addictive though so don’t get too used to it! Unfortunately my chemo didn’t make any difference and less than a year later I had to have a Mx. A bit of me felt rather resentful that I had suffered all the side effects and hair loss etc for absolutely nothing, but I am sure I am an isolated case! I still take the Tramadol from time to time but if I ask for a repeat prescription the other doctor in my practice always phones up to remind me that it is addictive!! To be honest I think the first dose of Docetaxol was definitely the worst one and it got a bit easier with the next two.
Take care

just finished 6 tax, must say the pain got much easier each time, keeping active helped even though it was hard to do but it definetly helped, also the injection causes pain too, I had lots of warm baths and used hot wheat bags and lay on electric blanket, push thru it has been the best advice Ive had though, I wish you all well, you will be at the end soon xx
friend had tramadol and was out of it during the day so think its a night drug but Ive never had it so not 100% sure, did you try heat last time, I could not have done it without heat!
