parp inhibitors

has anyone one here had trials of these or know of which hospitals in shropshire do these trials,if any ! thanks xxx

Rachel have u had brca testing done? Trials are currently only accessible to brca1/2 gene mutation carriers. However the marsden is planning a trial for brca neg patients. I am contacting the prof in charge this week to see how much progress has been made + to see when trial is likely to be recruiting. I will let u know as soon as. Trial results have been mixed- some see shrinkage/ no progression for a time, whilst otgers’ have no benefit. Elaine on here has been on a parp trial with some success I’m sure she will post if she sees this. Are u worried the capcetabine isn’t working?

Hi Tina & all hen I read about the PARP inhibitors I wondered if they should trial those newly diagnosed both BRCA + & neg and if this might not have a bigger impact on outcomes ?

hi tina , i am contacting bcn tomorrow about brca testing pretty sure i will be carrier but just hate to think i may have passed it on but do want to be tested xxx

I wasn’t eligable for nhs testing so we paid private + it came back neg. We ‘shopped around’ + got fastrack testing for around £650. Results were back in about 4wks (nhs can take 9-12m!). Lets no if u want me to pm u any details x
nekalar- I’m pretty sure Parps are only trialled curently with mets ladies butI may be wrong. Brca+ ladies only can access trials in the uk. Things are a little more advanced in the Us but from my research, it sadly seems that we are still a long way from a miracle drug with parps. I’m not aware of any parp trialswith primary ladies but I’m sure that will come with time, so long as the early trial show a sig benefit x

Fairyqueen, some of us were communicating about this, lastweek, I think. Here is the link.

I don’t know if there are still any phase 1 trials running. But I am in direct contact with the co-ordinator who tells me that there are no phase2 trials anywhere in G.B at the moment-which is naturally a huge disappointment.

hi elaine,i have a letter stating there are currently several phase 1 trials at the marsden in sutton, but need something closer to home so have written to an oncologist in birmingham xxx

I recently visited marsden and they said that the pharmaceutical company running the trials is, at the moment, concentrating on ovarian cancer. Hopefully they will return to breast and to keep “watching this space”. He also said that triple negative cancer responded well to parp inhibitors so hopefully the trials will be back soon. There was another trial and I can’t remember what it was or whether it was parp again, but he said I was too far away - Manchester was the nearest to me but i am too far away and they wouldn’t consider me.

thanks kelly thats interesting, i know distance is so daunting just wish there were more hospitals doing these trials to give us all a fair crack of the whip xxx
