Originally on 2004 i had a diagnosis of dcis intermediate grade. Had mastectomy and recon. Now recently I had what the consultant classed as a recurrence of grade 2 invasive bc in the skin of the reconstruction. Im struggling to get my head around it being a recurrence since it was dcis and not idc. Ill ask onc when i eventually have my appointment as cant help thinking it could be new primary or was it invasive originally! Its such a long time ago. It would be nice to understand.
Hello, I am no expert at all, but I have read a lot, since my original diagnosis if high grade DCIS ( which after lumpectomy/pathology results) they discover IDC hiding in amongst the DCIS and then it was found in 1 lymph node ( currently awaiting the start of chemotherapy). I know I did read, in my research on DCIS, that it has a habit of returning and can return as IDC and not just as DCIS. I would therefore think that you did have DCIS originally, but it has come back as IDC ( I happen to have had both at the same time in the one breast). Good luck with everything.
