Pegylated doxorubicin

Has anyone been on pegylated doxorubicin? Apparently being pegylated (whatever that means) is a process done to chemotherapy drugs enabling then to be better recycled. Doxorubicin is andriamycin (the A in AC which I had for primary bc)

Currently I’m about to start cycle 4 of 4 or 6 carboplatin/gemzar for my regional recurrence. Clincially there is a reasonable response and I’ll be scanned after 4 or 6…but was mulling over next possibiliites with my onc last night. Taxol is the other main possibility (have already had taxotere.)

I’m aiming for a chemo free late spring and summer whatever scans show, but like to know what might be ahead. I kindof don’t like the sound of pegylated anything…didn’t like AC first time round and it didn’t work so not instilled with confidence. But any stories…both about how it worked and about side effects?

best wishes to all

Jane

“Pegylation” article on Wikipedia says:
“PEGylation is the a process of covalent attachment of poly(ethylene glycol) polymer chains to another molecule, normally a drug or therapeutic protein”.
Polyethylene glycol (it has its own WP article) has a low toxicity and is used in laxatives, skin creams (cetomacrogol), s*xual lubricants, toothpastes, eye drops and in the soft drink Dr Pepper.
I do have a chemistry/biochemistry/food science background btw, but I don’t have personal experience of chemo.
