Periods / Hormone Levels

Hi Girls

Just wanted to hear from anyone that’s been in the same situation as me, as I need a little bit of positivity!
I am 31, pre-menopausal and finished chemo in Oct last year. I’m still having 3 weekly Herceptin and Avastin (as well as tamoxifen), but as yet no sign of periods returning. I’ve had my hormone levels checked several times, which were 80 then 30 - now 49 (normal I’m told is over 100). My OH and myself have always wanted a family and its now constantly on my mind that I may never be able to have children naturally, and am getting quite down about it.

Has anyone been through this and periods returned after 6 months+??

Would love to hear from you xx

Hi there

I’m not in your situation at all but thought what the gynaecologist told me (at 46) might be of help. I went into menopause following chemo but don’t know 100% whether this is temp or permanent.
He said that after chemo the ovaries had the potential to kick in anytime within the next 3 - 5 years. Obviously you’re much younger and therefore much more likely.

I also presume that you when you say you’re pre-menopausal there are no signs in the hormone testing of this such as raised FSH levels.

Im sure your periods will return give your body time to recover my onc said it took me 6 months for my treatment on chemo and it will take 6 months for it to get out of my system im not sure how the testing goes as i havnt had any im 44 my periods stopped 1st april last year you are still young so i wudnt worry to much about it they will return when they ready take care

Hi
I am 39 and finished chemo last April, tamoxifin since May.

My periods returned in the September of last year. The first was heavy, then the others medium to light.

It can take a while for your body to adjust after the battering it has been through, so hang in there, because at 31, your periods are bound to resume at some time.

All the best.

Hi, I am (need to think about this as I lie about me age…) 42. Finished chemo at the end of September, period returned 18th November, albeit very light as have coil.
Wishing you the very best
Marguerite

Hi I’m 32 years old, finished chemo in Aug 2009, a period came in June 2010, so 10 months after chemo. It was very heavy, I then went on Zoladex as my Onc wanted me to stay without periods for 2 years. So don’t worry I am sure they will come back. I did ask my Onc the same question at around the same time and he said due to my age he would be more surprised if they didn’t return. Boo

Thanks everyone for your posts - it has made me feel a little better - just need to relax and get on with life!

xx
