Periods Returning after A Year Post Chemo

Hi there, this is my first post here. I was diagnosed Nov 2009 had a Mastectomy followed by immediate Latissimus Dorsi reconstruction. I had six rounds of FEC followed by Rads… I haven’t had a period since my second chemo which was Feb of last year , started taking Tamoxifan and have had several different brands. The one I coped with best was the APS type however when I went back onto them I now have just had what is my first period since last year…I had a Hysteroscopy a few months back for something else which showed everything was fine but I am wondering if it’s normal for your period to return after such a long time? My cancer was both Oest and Prog positive…
Many Thanks …

Hi Scottdolly,
My onc said that Tamoxifen does not stop your periods. So she said mine could come back. I’ve only been on Tamoxifen since April, having finished 6 FEC in March.

When you next have a hospital appt it might be worth saying that your periods are back. If they are worried that this signifies more oestrogen in the body, then apparently they can prescribe Zoladex, which will stop your periods.

Can I ask, have the Tamoxifen hot flushes stopped now?

Oh, that’s one thing I don’t miss.
My periods were troublesome and i’m hoping i’ve seen the back of them, though i’m still quite young (coughs)and they weren’t slowing before chemo.

Hi there…I am still unsure as to whether it was a period or not as it didn’t last very long and there was only a small show…I had a hysteroscopy a few months back and it was clear, everything was fine…I am seeing my onc in sept and will mention it to him and will monitor whether I have another one or not…it’s a scary business and I at times long to go back to when life was carefree…my hot flushes have died down a lot …I do still get the occasional one but they are def better…
