Periods still haven't come back

Hi all,

I was diagnosed with bc Oct 06 aged 35 and have since had chemo, lumpectomy, radiotherapy and herceptin.

My periods went half way through my chemo but have not come back since - that was April 07. I’m 37 now, don’t have any kids but would like to in the future. I keep hoping they’ll come back and it upsets me to think I could go into an early menopause. Have spoken to my consultant about it but he’s quite vague, although he doesn’t think I’m going through menopause as I don’t get hot flushes or anything. I’m on Tamoxifen and was told this can interfere with periods coming back…

Has anyone been through a similar experience? Did your periods come back after over a year?

Hi,

Why don’t you ask for a blood test that will measure your FSH levels. That stands for Follicle Stimulating Hormone and that is a blood test that will tell the doctors if you have had an early menopause or not by the level of a certain hormone in your blood stream. I think Tamoxifen can interfere with the result so that may be why they haven’t done it but it’s worth asking the question.
