Hi everybody, Im wondering if any one can give me some advice on periods/menopause.
I had my last “proper” period on 31st March 2007, (the date of my last chemo), I didnt have any for 8 months then lo and behold a month ago I had a horrendous one. I went to see my GP as I was concerned about it, but unfortunately she didnt have any answers to my questions, which was 1) Am I now fertile again? 2) is it a side effect of Tamoxifen 3) the onc said I wouldnt have any more, why now?
this weekend I had a 24hr one, does this mean Im getting back to normal or not. Plus is it the start of the menopause which the onc said would happen. Im very confused.
Thanks
Annie42.
Hiya mate.
I had periods all the way through my chemo…much to my disgust as the onc had promised me they would stop…thoroughly enjoyed calling him a liar. Im on tamoxifen as well…i asked the bc nurse and she said…they can stop or disrupt your periods…theres just no way of telling…which is not the answer i wanted! She did say that although i was having periods, that doesnt mean i was fertile etc…but to be careful and not get pg!
It winds you up no-end not being able to get an answer…and probablys and possiblys just dont cut it. We all want yes or nos…but they just cant give us those answers.
If your at all worried…phone the bc nurse up at the hossie and see what she/he says…might be able to pass on info to your consultant up there and then hell get back to you.
Thanks Button. Its very confusing, and disappointing cos I thought it was a blessing not to have them anymore. Im due to see my consultant first week of Dec, so Im going to pester him I think. My GP said the consultant knows everything!!!
