Periods

Hi Everyone

I’m 31, was dia sept 06, i’m on the last part of treatment…had op, chemo, radio and having heceptin, due to finish in the summer, yippee.

Up til the last few months i’ve been really lucky periods have stayed pretty regular and not much has changes since before i started all this but the last couple of months i’ve noticed my periods have been getting lighter and shorter. I also been getting really hot during the night the week leading up to coming on.

I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed their periods deteriorate towards the end of the treatment. The way my onc use to talk was if i was gonna lose them (which was quiet likely which we all know) it would of been during chemo. I didn’t so I’m a bit confused and slightly worried.

If anyone has been through this as well it would be great to hear from you.

Thanks Kaz

Hi Kaz

In similar situation as you. Finished herceptin around Sept/Oct time. I had one period whilst on chemo but was given Zoladex injections to switch off my ovaries during chemo so haven’t had one since around august time. Waiting for them to restart and hoping and praying they will. Have had hot flushes all through chemo as a result of hormonal changes and still getting them. Everybody is different - some people’s periods come back and others don’t. I went to a fertility clinic just before chemo to have my hormone levels measured and a scan and have a date to go back in July to measure hormone levels and more scans to see what the fertility situation is.

Hi all

I am not on any further treatment - had chemo followed by surgery but its now been 14 weeks since I have had a period. at 39 I am not really bothered whether they come back or not as I have 1 beautiful 14 year old daughter and have had no inclincation to have any more. Just wander if they will come back or not tho. Have had hot flushes - especially during night;- bc nurse says they might come back they might not.

wishing you all the very best

Hi

I’m 41 (40 when diagnosed) and I have only had 2 periods since July 07, following surgery, chemo and now on radiotherapy. I too have hot flushes at night any suggestions to help it??? I too are not bothered it they don’t come as don’t want to go through menopause again.

Hi Angela

Afraid I have no suggestions for flushes - just keep flipping the quilt on and off - lol - they are a pain tho eh?

Hi Fiona

Yes they are a pain. In bed, because I keep kicking the quilt off and then pulling it back on my husband says its like being on a dinghy at sea. He’ll be needing sea-bands next!!! As if we don’t go through enough without these. In fact my onc is not starting me on tamoxifen yet.

Good luck for the future,

Angelax
