Hi ladies
just wonderingif any of you have had pet scans since being dx with mets? My new onc has mentioned a pet scan as a possibility + I’m planning on pushing for one when I see her next week but… I’m scared to death it’ll show loads of stuff we didn’t know about:( Can u ladies share ur experiences please? Have any of you had a pet that flagged up serious progression missed on a ct scan??
Ive been having a wheezy chest for about 6wks+ now but my ct scan last month showed nothing on my lungs. It also failed to flag up an obvious node at my clavical- only a new enlarged node in my chest washighlighted. And this morning, I’ve woke up with a pain in my neck- feels like I’ve pulled a little muscle but I’ve just had a prod around and have found a very small, but definate lump there ![]()
I’ve seen a few oncs who all think I’m fine, things are pretty stable and so they want to withold chemo now and rescan in 3months but given the new lump in my neck, I think I’ll be pushing for the pet scan asap…
Any advice welcome
tina x
Anyone had a petscan???
Hi Gingerbud,
I’ve not had a PET scan but plan to ask my onc about it this evening.
I don’t have any known secondaries but am a stage IIB with loads of nodes involved so I feel it will only be a matter of time.
I obviously want to catch things asap when they do happen and I know that PET scans can pick up things which CT and bone scans don’t…
Good luck,
Kate x
Hi Tina,
I’ve had 6 PET scans now, with a 7th due in 4 weeks, so guess I’m a PET scan pro!!! I had my first about 18 months ago because I was having a lot of pain in my sternum, but an initial CT scan came back as inconclusive & only mentioned ‘non-specific’ changes. I was told to have a PET scan almost to put my mind at rest that all was well, but when the report came back it showed 4 areas of bone mets. Needless to say I was pretty shocked as I sort of presumed that there was nothing nasty lurking!
The scan will pick up any chemical activity that’s happening in your body, so if there’s something going on you’ll know about it. However, I think in my case because it picked up changes that were going on very early, my onc was able to react quickly & alter treatment when necessary to give me a better chance of stabilising the mets.
I only have bone mets, so nothing else has shown up for me & I hope this will be the case for a long time yet, so i will put up with the regular PET scans if it means no more progression.
If you believe there’s something going on in your body Tina that you’re not happy about, go for the scan. At least if it does confirm your fears you’ll then be in the position to get the correct treatment & be proactive.
Good luck,
Dugsy x
Thanks for the replies ladies ![]()
hope- stage 2 is early breast cancer so try not to panic. But if you really want a scan I would push it- I can understand your anxieties if lots of nodes were affected. But I know lots of people with high nodal involvement who are doing great, whilst otgers’ with little/no node involvement (like me!) have gone onto get secondaries. Good luck x
dugsy- thanks for sharing your experiences. I’m defo going to push for a pet scan after finding this neck lump this morning. I’ve been feeling really anxious for the last few wks- I think deep down I know there is progression and that’s why I can’t rest. I’m going to call my onc now. Best of luck with your next scan x
any other pet experiences? X
