Phoned BCN for an update before next appointment... I shouldn't have :(

Haha I know I have no idea what day of the week it is! Today I’ve repeatedly thought it was friday

I actually booked this via a friend who has recently qualified. When students finish and are qualified therapists they aren’t given their certificates until they have a certain number of paid hours under their belt. This means that most counselling companies have newly qualified therapists that offer counselling at a more affordable price.
I am able to pay anything from £10 to £30 for the hour.
It has been really great. I actually booked her before I was diagnosed with breast cancer to help me with my health anxiety!!! The poor women had the rug pulled out from her with that haha

It sounds like it’s helping you most days as well.

How are you feeling about things today?

Sue x

Yeah it really does help. Its really nice having someone to talk to.

I am doing ok today. Got my pad and pen infront of me ready to write down any questions I have at my results meeting tomorrow

It feels good to be a little bit organised.

How are you doing @SueDerb?

I.also have a pad and pen laying about so I can write down any questions I have in preparation for my mastectomy.

I’m doing okay I guess but I know as it gets closer I will feel more worried. I have my results appointment for my nodes biopsy etc on the 26th February so that’s a long way away but understandable and will deal with whatever comes my way okay, I hope.

I hope it goes as well as it can for you tomorrow @foxgem , I will be thinking of you x

Hi foxgem

wishing you all the best for good results tomorrow, you have been supporting everyone so well over past weeks.

just remember if they aren’t the results you want it just means you will be taking a detour through the forest instead of a straight route, but you will get out the other side.

Xx

Hi @foxgem

Will be thinking of you tomorrow. I agree with what has already been said, you’ve been so kind and supportive to others while going through so much yourself. I will keep everything crossed for you. x

Goodness thank you both so much. I could cry but I wont! I’m not turning those taps on again for a while, they arent easy to turn off haha

Thank you everyone that has read my rambles and responded or just read and liked them. The support here has been unbelievable and really gets me through the day sometimes

I am nervous for tomorrow but its strange, I also have a real calm feeling. I know with the meeting comes the plan. The plan that we all want on day 1. Its taken 11 weeks which feels insane to me. 11 weeks from diagnosis to get to this part. So the next chapter awaits!!! There’s no way to the end without going through so we keep going

I have to say I think it helped that on Friday I had a big melt down. I really cried it out and it felt awful at the time but I think that has calmed me down a little bit

Hello lovely people
I got clear margins and no spread
Really fantastic news… however :grimacing: a benign lump they tested behind my main lump that wasnt cancer has now come back as cancer so I have to have another op. Not really another lumpectomy, more a scrape. Because the benign lump wasnt cancer he didnt take a margin. So he wants to go back in to be sure he’s taken enough.
It does mean I could have had 2 different types of cancers. They have sent off for the onco score to determine chemo or not but if it’s a different brand I will probably have chemo regardless.
What a rollercoaster!!!
I am relieved and grateful and just in shock right now. The cancer curve balls are hard and fast!
I am still taking the clear margin and no spread as a win.
Next op, 5th Feb

Heyyy @foxgem awww you’ve been on my mind today so it’s lovely to hear from you and what fab news that they got clear margins and no spread, absolutely a win!!

It really is a rollercoaster this journey isn’t it!! Was it a benign lump before this diagnosis? Or found at diagnosis of the 1st lump? Hopefully the scrape is very minor and its the same type as the original one and you can crack on with the next stage of treatment :growing_heart:

How are you feeling xx

I’m assuming they didn’t test the benign lump before your surgery with a biopsy and it’s only subsequent pathology after your surgery they have found out it was cancer. Good news about clear margins and lymph nodes on the first tumour. Fingers crossed the ‘scrape’ goes well on the 4th. Hope you can fill the time between then and now with some nice things to take your mind off it all.

I had one tumour and having an MRI to decide if it was surgery or chemo first, they found a suspicious area in the other boob. They thought it was an intramammary gland but a biopsy confirmed cancer. I had two separate cancers a grade 1 and a grade 2. The treatment plan was based on the grade 2 larger tumour which was HER2+ so needed chemo and Herceptin. I had a bilateral lumpectomy first then chemo/Herceptin.

Chemo isn’t nice but it’s doable. If you do need it, try to see it as a mop up. That’s how it was for me as my surgery was the biggest difference. There is a monthly chemo starters thread for people to join to support each other with others who start chemo the same month as you.

For now enjoy your win.

Clear margins and no spread! That’s amazing! I know the other lump has been a bit of a surprise but I think it’s quite common to have more than one. Mine was a Grade 2 tumour and when they whipped it out there were a couple of surprise mini Grade 1s in there too for good measure. This didn’t affect the plan for me but I guess it’s a little more waiting room time for you (urgh!) while they do what they need to do to make sure the next steps are right for you. Focus on the wins! I’m so pleased for you. x

Hi @southwest123 can i ask what your treatment plan was as I had 2 tumors along with large DCIS with 2 positive lymph nodes

Been told all cancer has been removed but find out next wednesday if its chemo. Hope you dont mind me asking

@foxgem This is wonderful news, I’m so glad it hasn’t spread, what a relief for you .

I’m so sorry they found another tumour, so not quite what you hoped for and I can imagine it’s mixed feelings for you and you have so many questions. Although I haven’t been in your position, after my first lumpectomy in 2018 I didn’t have clear margins which was disappointing, so they went in again to leave me with a more positive outcome, after the second operation I just began some of the exercises again, I knew what I was capable of doing so judged it myself really, It wasn’t as difficult as when they first operated on me. I never ended up with lymphoedema thankfully.

So you are a day after me, I go in for my mastectomy on the 4th.

May I say, everyone is right, you are so supportive to everyone, now it’s your turn to lean on us for a while

Sending big hugs :heart::heart:

Such good news that you got clear margins and no lymph node involvement @foxgem! Fingers crossed they quickly sort the remaining bit, and fingers crossed for a low oncotype score and no chemo :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers: Do you know what grade tumour you had? If grade 2, you may well dodge it :crossed_fingers:
I’m sure you’re feeling pretty exhausted with it all, but keep going girl :flexed_biceps::heart: Lots of love xx

This is great news overall and hopefully the other lump will not alter your treatment plan too much. Fingers crossed for a straight forward operation.

@sammy75 I don’t mind you asking at all! After lumpectomy I had radiotherapy and now taking tamoxifen. I was told from the start if it was higher grade than they thought (provisionally graded 1-2, confirmed as 2) or if any nodes were involved then I would have had chemo. I was very fortunate with my results and it was not needed. x
