picc line

Know there have been a few of these up, but cant find recent one, got to have picc line for chemo, feeling oddly nervous about it, has anyone had it done? Did it hurt to have it sorted? Only appeal is not being a pin cushion (crap veins!)

Hi Vic,
I love my PICC! It’s put in under local anaesthetic, didn’t feel a thing when they put it in. Bit achy for a couple of days and it can sting a bit when it’s cleaned. But it’s fantastic, so much better than having cannulas put in.
Good luck x

Thanks, did the hospital give you covers etc? Can you shower ok? Can only find ‘sensible’ plastic like things online.

I have just had my PICC line removed after my last chemo. For me I had a lot of discomfort when it was put in, but think I was unlucky that it took them a long time to get it right. Once it was in though and after a couple of days I mostly forgot about it. You can buy waterproof covers from a company called LIMBO so you can bath and shower easily. It’s the same company who make covers for plaster casts.

Thank you!

Hi having picc line done as I am also a pin cushion with no veins …any advice ?

Hiya, I ended up with Hickman line as picc just didn’t work. But any line makes life easier. It is odd going in, but makes blood tests and chemo much easier. You get regular line care which I found helpful as any odd questions I had, I saw the chemo nurses regularly. Good luck x
