planning meeting

Hi All

had my planning meeting today and it was okay but not great. Firstly i was sent off in to the city to get a bra (obviously a bit large) which then turned out to be the wrong colour so thay cut mine up instead and gave me the new one. If only they had asked in the first place i could have told them that mine was properly fitted.
Then i did’nt like the ct scanner so god help me if i ever need an mri scan, they’d have to anaethetise me. Having already paid to park once they then told me i just had to have my card validated and it would be free. Deep joy, so things can only get better.

Hi LInda,

Once again this whole process begins to confuse me - why on earth did they cut up your bra?

In all the weeks I’ve been on this site I’ve never seen it mentioned and as I’m due to begin Radiotherapy in the, hopefully, not too distant future I’d like to be prepared.

I find this very strange. I certainly didn’t have a bra cut up. There was mention of needing soft bras, with no lace or anything that would irritate but no one has looked at what I am wearng at all!! And I have no idea what difference the colour of a bra makes? I didn’t have a CT scan either. There seem to be so many differences because of where you go for treatment and I don’t undersand why this is so.

I hope your treatment goes well Linda and Maddy. I am half way through my 6 weeks today!

Anne

They cut my bra up as i have large boobs and i will have to wear it during treatment but the funny thing is they cut the cup out of the opposite side- wheres the logic in that and had the cheek to say that i’d got a new bra out of it.

Linda

Hi Linda,

Welcome to the world of radiotherapy. I’m nearly three weeks in, and it’s driving me crazy! Just the hassle of going to the hospital every day, then they’re always running late - why give me appointment times they know they can never keep? I really can’t understand that, surely it would benefit everyone if they looked at the actual times people are seen compared with appointment time, and adjusted their appointments accordingly.

Yesterday I also had an appointment at the thyroid clinic for an unrelated problem. That was running 3/4 hour late, so when I got to radiotherapy I explained I’d already had a long wait at the hospital and if radiotherapy was also late, I would rather go away and come back later. The receptionist rang through to the radiographers and came back to me and told me I should wait. Well, I waited for 50 minutes. What’s wrong with these people? Don’t they realise we have lives outside of hospital treatment? It makes me so cross that they don’t value our time. As I keep on telling them - it’s my taxes that pay their salaries, it’s not like I’m getting something for nothing.

Hi Sandlin

Sorry to be personal but - how big are your boobs? I’m 36E (well, at least one of my breasts still is!) and now I have something else to worry about !

Roadrunner - I’m a bit worried about my radiotherapy as I still don’t know when it’s taking place - but the woman who rang said it would probably be around the middle of the day - that messes up the whole day as far as I can see especially if they run late, as they always appear to do - and it will continue over Christmas and New Year !

It’s a good job I’ve still got my sense of humour - just been to BHS and bought a boob shaped stress reliever as a Christmas present for my husband!

Best wishes

Hi Sandlin,

I don’t understand why they cut up your bra. I went this morning for my planning session. They didn’t even look at my bra. I had to change into a gown and was called in promptly at the exact time of my appointment which was 11.20am. Everything went quite smoothly and they were very efficient, marking, tattooing and measuring. The only bit that I didn’t like too much was when they all went out of the room and left me on my own which seemed like an age to me (only a few minutes though). Eventually, the table moved under the scanner and back and I saw the scanner whirring around. I must admit I was thinking that I would have to jump off of the table at some point as I was beginning to panic but I thought that would be silly as I would have to start all over again. Eventually they all came back into the room. My arm and hand were beginning to feel numb from being in the same position for so long. After they copied up the markings, it was all over. I am beginning my radiotherapy on 20th November and hope it will not be too bad. They all seemed very nice at this particular department.

Sandra

I,ve since found out that they cut out the other cup of my bra to stop the breast getting treated as well. I start on the 27th and have 25 sessions- finishing on 3rd jan. I am hoping to go back to work 2 weeks after treatments ends

I also have large breasts (F cup). To ensure a consistent treatment, my hospital made a fibreglass mould of the treatment breast to hold it in position during zapping. It’s also supposed to prevent the skin creasing and burning as a result. The mould has to be positioned carefully and is secured with velcro straps - must look weird! I think the bra sounds much easier!

Helen

Help! I’m due to start radiotherapy in the next couple of weeks and all this is making me feel decidely nervous!

Went today for 1st treatment and they decided the positioning isnt correct so have to have it all recalculated. Have a flight booked for 8th janand told them it better be done by then as already missing one flight this sunday.

Hi
I should start my rads treatment on the18th Dec,At Preston Hospital

Do they work over xmas? I tried to ring B.C nurse today to find out .{ Could,nt catch her ]]so though i would ask you.

Don’t know about your hospital, but at the Beatson in Glasgow they very generously give me Xmas Day and New Years Day off… I still have to go in on Xmas Eve, Boxing Day, Hogmanay… etc… I guess I’d rather it’s this way as that means it will all be over sooner!!

AliS

Hi Fruitcake

I am due to start rads at Preston and will find out today when I will start. They thought at my last appointment that they may til after xmas. I finish my chemo today. Last of taxotere so a horrible few days coming up but another milestone.

Are you under the breast nurses at Chorley?

Liz x

In Leicester they don’t plan to work Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Years Day - really looking forward to treatment on New Years Eve!

Was due to finish on January 7th but they’ve cancelled my first two sessions so that will extend the time scale - it would have been great to finish before the end of the year but they keep building in delays

Good Luck to you all,
Maddy xxxx
