Hi feel abit like everyone else on here, not sure if I should worry or stay calm and treat it like nothing is wrong!!! I found a lump in my right breast on Tuesday, made an appointment for that morning to see GP who examined me and found the lump and also another one, she referred me as urgent so hope to be seen in two weeks!! only thing is now I have a very dull constant pain in my breast(always thought if there was pain then it wouldnt be cancer)and my breast feels very warm… not to touch but as if its on the inside?? I have also noticed that around where the first lump is I have developed a red rash… I’m beginning to think that as each day goes on I find my breast developing something else… should I be worried? should I let my GP know about the other symptoms or just wait until my appointment arrives… please help
Hi Breny
Firstly, welcome to the forums, I’m sure you will find them a great source of support and information.
Waiting for appointments is always a very difficult time as I’m sure others will confirm.
Whilst you are waiting, you might find it useful to speak to one of our helpline staff. They can offer information and support or can simply listen to your concerns.
The number is 0808 800 6000 and they’re open weekdays 9-5 and Saturday 9-2.
I’ve also given her the link to our publication entitled ‘Referral to a Breast Clinic’ which you might find useful to read before your appointment.
It can be either downloaded from here or ordered:
breastcancercare.org.uk/upload/pdf/referral_redesign__final_14_feb_08_0.pdf
Hope you find this information useful.
Kind regards.

Hi
I do suggest you go back to your GP since you are worried. A long time ago I had similar symptoms such as a red rash, boob feeling hot turned out to be a touch of mastitus (forgive spelling).
I needed antibiotics and it left me with a lump which I was referred to the breast clinic for (disapeared by the time I had my appt in those days).
Nothing to do with my DCIS picked up on my first routine mammograme last August. Despite how worried you are 9 times out of 10 lumps prove not to be cancer when they are checked. Better to be safe than sorry.
Take care
Lynne
HI there,
yes do go back to your GP in case there is something GP can do in meantime. I’m afraid to say there are so many things that breasts can do and so many stories/myths around -the only thing that makes any sense is you having definitive results …so, in your situation I went for major distraction activity, films, wine, work etc. And be good to worself, it is a worrying time, but as Lynne says the majority are OK. Some of us do need treatment but lots of us are lucky enough to get through that too.
best wishes
thanks so much for the comments and helpful advise, I’m trying the major distraction technic and the wine one too, which should help!!! unfortunately I have a very protective hubby who is worrying for both of us… and I’m doing the “it will be fine nothing to worry about” and trying to act normal especially around my two kids (19 and 16 1/2) dont want them worrying too!!! havent said anything to my close friends as I feel saying anything them might jinks it so I’m using this forum as my release…thanks again
The other thing about telling people at this stage is that you don’t actually have anything you CAN tell them, so the amount of worrying goes up massively. And then you can feel a bit silly when you learn that it’s all fine.
I heartily approve of the distraction techniques, but if you want to do a bit of careful reading, try the Publications section of the site, in particular the one highlighted by Louise the Mod. Be very careful googling things at this stage or you’ll end up convincing yourself you’ve sprouted four heads and have turned into an alien!
Good luck, and please keep us posted, we like to read good news and stats are on your side for it to be good news. As has been said, 9 out of 10 lumps referred to breast clinics are nothing to do with cancer.
