polyp?

hello ladies,
First i just want to say a big hello. I joined the forum a couple of weeks ago and have been reading some info on the site, and some posts. how brave you all are  I went to the GP reguarding a tiny hard lump under my nipple, with some discharge. Today i went to my local breast clinic.

I have never tried to convince myself that i have breast cancer. I am 26, with hormonal problems and no history of breast cancer in my family. I actually knew very little about breast cancer untill this week! I have known for years how to do a home breast exam (thank you morning tv!) but i have only ever really performed them out of curiosity - not fear. I had a breast reduction 7 years ago and have on occasion had a good ol’ fondle to feel how my new boobs have dropped/developed/become more natural feeling.

I did drive myself insane the first few days or so untill i rang to find out when my appointment was. But since then relaxed and quietly tried to convince myself that i should really just cancel the appointment. Im so glad i didnt though, and i wasnt made to feel like i was wasting anyones time today - despite having a ‘superficial problem.’

I did not have a mamogram (though have had one in the past re; reduction.) The radiographer mentioned that my lump could be a form of papilloma, but i was too busy looking at the weird bright bump growing in me with facination.

I then saw a surgeon, who did a quick examination and started talking about it looking like a polyp. I tried to make a joke of it by saying that it wouldnt suprise me if its just an old stitch that didnt come out years back. He then looked up from his paper work and said “no, its a polyp.”

Its too small to biopsy and he has booked me straight into surgery to have it removed and biopsied within the next 4 weeks. it feels tiny, and was actually suprised to hear its a mighty 5mm! (note i said mm, not cm! lol) I was so happy to be out of the clinic 2 hours quicker than i was told i would be (probably as no biopsy to hang around for) and so releived to actually to be “only” have nipple work done, and saying things like “ah it will be a walk in the park compared to a reduction” that i forgot to ask more questions about the polyp.

and not that it really matters i guess. they told me its probably harmless, and it is going to be sorted out very quickly. but im a curious creature, and iv never heard of polyps being present in the breast. a quick google (i know, i shouldnt do it) doesnt come up with anything other than a vague sentence or two about intraductal papilloma appearing like a polyp. is this more along the lines of what he is talking about?

i know patience is key, and beleive me im not freaking out about all of this. I dont want to be a drama queen when so many other people are suffering with real problems, but im just hoping to shed some light on this mysterious “pillock” as i know call it.

thank you for reading,

bb x
