Can any one advise me had a portcath fitted yesterday, ready for chemo to start in jan 11 how many days does it feel uncomftable for
Hello Dolly
I had my portocath fitted the day of my first chemo it was sited on my chest just above my left breast ( cancer was in my right) it was sore and uncomfortable for a week or two. I found it easier to try and sleep on my back. Ask the chemo nurse for some cream ( can’t remember the name of it) to put on the portocath before administering chemo, its best to put on about an hour before and applied thickly not rubbed in. I also took pain killers when it was first sore. Don’t forget it is still a minor op in itself.
