I haven’t posted for quite a while now, but had to come back to the boards to share some good news which I hope will give others in a similar position a much-needed boost.
I was diagnosed with a regional recurrence / mets (the jury is still out as to which), behind the sternum in September 2006, 3 and a half years after my initial diagnosis. After 15 sessions of rads, an oopherectomy and a switch from Tamoxifen to Arimidex, 2 subsequent scans showed that the tumour was shrinking, though the bone was so weak, from the cancer eating into it and the rads, that I broke my sternum. Well, I’ve just had the third CT scan results and guess what? THERE IS NO SIGN OF THE TUMOUR!!! And the bone has regenerated with no signs of damage! Wow - I am officially in remission, N.E.D.!!! Yes, miracles can happen. Yes, there is life after BC. TWICE!
I realise I’m one of the lucky ones and not everyone is so fortunate with their response to treatment, but I really hope my story can help give you hope, especially in those dark days of just not knowing. If it can work out for me, who’s to say it can’t work out for you, too?
Just wanted to say thats great news and its nice to know someone is living my dream of going into remission again.
You’ve certainly given me something to think about in my horrible time.
Thank you for posting your wonderful news, really, really happy for you. It does give us all some hope and is great to hear some positive news especially someone second time round. Good Luck to you in the future. Positive thoughts for you.
Wow that is really good news thank you for sharing that - do you think you did anything in particular that helped to heal yourself and for your tumour to disappear? ie your diet etc?
Thank you all for your kind words, even as some of you are fighting with your backs against the wall.
I wish I could say I had a magic answer, but I don’t. I didn’t wildly change my diet, but I have eaten a “healthy” Mediterranean diet for years. I didn’t find the power of prayer, though I know many people have prayed for me. I just accepted my treatment path (rads, ooph, switch from Tamoxifen to Arimidex), and then spoiled myself with Reflexology, Reiki and red wine. I have also recently been referred to an Acupuncturist. These complementary therapies have helped treat the symptoms (menopause at 35, chronic fatigue with a full-time job,… ), but I believe it was the rads that really zapped the bugger into remission… And I know that was just down to luck.
But if I can win the cancer lottery, maybe you can too. I really hope we all can.
