Possible hormone imbalance

Since being diagnosed with ADH I am wondering whether the lump in my breast was caused by hormone imbalance. Is it possible to have a hormone count? I am going through the menopause and it has been 9 years since my periods stopped. How will I know when the menopause has finished? I still get the occasional hot flush. Should I see my GP in the first instance and/or ask to be referred back to my consultant? I am still on his list as he has arranged for me to have a yearly mammogram for the next 5 years and is keeping an eye on me.

Hi Furby

You can get different hormone profiles done by means of blood tests. This is probably something you could discuss with your GP. I don’t know much about your condition (ADH) and whether the lump could be related. Presumably the lump was benign?

I’m not sure though what a hormone count relating to menopause would tell you that would help? If you are or are not through menopause, what difference would that make to you if you’ve not got breast cancer?

I think probably the best thing is to discuss with your GP so you can feel a bit clearer about things. For example: what the lump was and what they think would have caused it. It doesn’t sound to me like you’ve been given enough information.

Please come back to us on the thread if you’ve anymore questions. I’m sure one of us may be able to help a bit. Elinda x

Hi
You can get an idea of menopausal status from a blood test (from the oestradiol & FSH levels) but you can also have a urine test which looks at the ratio of 2-OHE & 16alpha-OHE1 levels which is an indicator of the way estrogen is metabolised & a measure of hormone balance. I have been considering having the latter test (information supplied by nutritionist at the Haven) but am still wondering about what it would tell me & whether I really need to know! It also costs about £150. You could google estrogen metabolism assessment (urine) to find out more. My GP was happy to do the blood test but didn’t know much about the urine test.
