Post surgery & awaiting treatment

Hi everyone

well today is 4 weeks since surgery and it has been confirmed that it has gone to my lymph nodes so I will be having chemo & radiotherapy once my wounds have healed.

can anyone point me in the right direction regarding things like what body moisturiser would be advisable & recommended.

also I have acrylic nails on at the moment- will I have to have them taken off?

am I likely to be told to avoid certain foods & coffee?

are there any precautions I need to take around animals (we have a cat).

any suggestions to make life a little easier would be much appreciated

Hello!

What type of breast cancer is it that you have?

I have bought Aveeno moisturiser as recommended by my BCN for after radio therapy, however, I think some hospitals provide creams for after radio therapy.

I also used to wear acrylic nails before I started my chemo (I am 2 cycles in now), and they made me take them off in case they needed to do my obs/ stats using the finger machine. Chemo can also make your nails weaker, so if I were you, take the acrylics off and paint them black/ dark red as this apparently keeps them stronger.

In terms of the foods, I haven’t really changed anything about my diet however, some food and drinks taste funny for me now. I cannot stand coffee, and I would drink it every day! It’s crazy what happens.

And in regards to your cat, just be careful in terms of cleaning up any cat mess, as you will be more susceptible to infection when you start chemo.

Hope this helps x

sorry to hear your news, I hope all goes ok.

I had grade 1 Invasive ductal-hormone driven, with neg her2 and 1 of 5 nodes containing macrometasteses. The Oncologist said I should be ok with Radiotherapy & Tamoxifen, as the predict score stated I would be only 1% better off with chemo- so not worth the risk.

Of course I don’t know all your details, but you may not need chemo- I presumed I would, but was relieved when I was hold not
