Post surgery bras

Hi there,
Does anyone know where I can get a non-wired non- padded post surgery bra that doesn’t cost the earth?

The lara by amoena I think it’s called. It’s about £23, I have 3, 2 pink and 1 cream. It does come up small in the back though so order bigger.

Em x

Hi Laraine

Here’s the link to the BCC publication ‘A confident choice’ which contains information about where you can buy mastectomy bras, you can order a copy or read it via this link:

Marks and spencers do a nice range but they only stock them in certain stores(Chester and Foss Park leicester are 2), you can order them online as well.I bought myself a load when I found them reduced to £5 in the sale,so its worth having a look then. Its worth trying a look on a well known aution site I have had a couple of M&S ones for about £6. ASDA also do a cheap and cheerfull sports bra type post surgery bra in white or black for about £8. I can also reccomend womenzone in culcheth near warrington, they also make swimwear I have had a costume of them. The ladies that work there are so professional and will look at the psychological as well as everything else. They looked at me and said because I have long legs they would make the costume high cut as that would draw they eye down from my boobs which are not quite balenced. They also advised me to have a random pattern on the costume as this stops the eye from being drawn to the fact that you are not balenced.
Happy bra shopping,

Jano x

Thanks so much Em & Lucy, will try them. xx

Many thanks to you too Jano.xx

Hi there Laraine - I have got bra’s from BHS, they are nonwired cotton cross over bra’s - a two pack are £10 come in white/grey/nutural. A prostethis can be sewn into this bra as it is seamfree - only took a few minutes. They are not as good as the ones M&S used to sell but they come a second best. M&S discontinued their range, I wrote and asked why but got no reply.
I find that hand washing them makes the colour stay true rather than hand wash.
Hope this helps.
Love Diane xxxx

hello Laraine
ASDA do some a bit basic in style but only cost £6. In cotton as well which is good.
best wishes

Marks and Spencer do some great soft bras. I got some lovely ones designed for pregnancy, but they do the job just great. Good luck in your hunt x.

I have found that ebay sell brand new bras from the main retailers such as Amoena, Eloise, Royce etc but cheaper than buying direct (don’t know how they can do this). I have been disappointed by M&S bras, they don’t seem to fit me very well.

I’m glad someone has found a bra that does the job. I had bleeeding and then a large seroma (fluid collection) after the operation which made my breast swell to a size 48" and the incision scar under the armpit rubbed against the inside of every bra I had or bought.

Bras are made to look pretty on the outside so all the seams and stitching are on the inside where they rub on the damaged skin. I did find that pushing a wound-up cotton sock right under the crease (where the breast falls onto the rib cage) helped to stop more pull on the scar tissue which was almost opening up at one point. I tried the sleep bra shown on various web sites but this was too tight with no support. When I have had drainage of the accumulated fluids the discomfort is reduced a bit and I can wear an ordinary, soft, non-underwired bra but take the thing off when I sit. I wore the bra in bed for the first week then I did what most probably do and raised the effected arm on a pillow. This is also supposed to help with Lymphodaema. It doesn’t seem to matter now which type of bra I wear so long as it is cotton, soft and not underwired. There are no bras I can find which do not fit into the armpit, some fit further down, some further up but if the nymph nodes have been removed the scar is four to six inches long and directly in the way of the edge of the bra.

I had a lumpectomy with nodes so have two scars but the one under the armpit is the most troublesome. I was not told about which bra to get for post-surgery.

I was size 42B before the operations and having a large breast certainly adds to the discomfort after the operation. Had I known how difficult it would be to support my breast afterwards I would have investigated this aspect of after care in more depth. Getting a comfortable supportive bras in a larger size beforehand would have helped as well.

Hi

Its two and a half years years since my surgery and tried quite a few bras. I prefer underwired ones and have found the best for me have been Triumph Amourette which is slightly paddes but cost over £20 (unless you spot them in the sale) and recently bought a double pack from M & S one black one white slightly padded and pretty, cost £12 and found with these that the side wire fits more away from the lymph gland scar than any of my others and is more comfortable.
Happy hunting!

try asda! i brought their post surgery bras after my mastectomy ,they are not wired and made out of cotton and only cost £6! nowadays i wear, some from a lovely website called ABOUT THE GIRL ,and the bras are so comfortable reasonably priced and come packeged really nicely with ribbons etc very girly .x
