hi all, nearly 3 weeks post ANC, 5 weeks post WLE, I’m still suffering with the sunburn type feeling in my upper arm. The docs prescribed amitriptyline (? Spelling!) but now I have upset stomach, started taking them Thursday, wondering if the upset stomach is a side effect, it is listed. Anyone had similar or taken anything else that worked? Thanks, hope everyone sleeps well, Sarah xx
Hi Sarah. Sorry to hear you’re still in pain/uncomfortable. I take amitryptilene for trigeminal neuralgia and it’s never upset my stomach but every one is different. For the first couple of days I feel like a zombie but that side effect years off. I usually take them for about a month after the pain has died down then stop until it starts again, only because without the pain I forget. But they are fab for nerve pain and also help you to sleep. My sis in law takes them for a trapped nerve in her neck and it’s the only thing that works for her. If you can tolerate the upset stomach I would say stick with them. Is it nausea/vomiting or the other end? Thinking of you xx
Thank you yes it is tomorrow eek! If it is the tablets hopefully by tomorrow it will be calming down. Hope you get it sorted and can stay on them as they are an excellent safe painkiller. Xx
Hi Sarah, my hubby has a damaged nerve in his neck and couldn’t tolerate it (not bowel related) and was switched to a different drug in the same group as amytriptiylene and is fine on the alternative. It maybe something short lived that will settle or your gp could suggest an alternative. X
Hi everyone, Bottyboo hope today was all straightforward and you will be home soon. Helly, yes the GP said if it doesn’t settle by itself they will try gabapentin but it takes a couple weeks to kick in and they think by then I may not need it. So for now it’s just a case of putting up with it! Hood you are well, Sarah xx
Argh!! Who the hell gave patients bells? Cos they don’t do anything except go off all night (wanted to open the door to my bay and shout ffs answer the bell ) And if the woman in bed one doesn’t stop snoring I will suffocate her. It will be worth doing time for ?? she keeps stopping to lull me into a false sense of security and then starts as soon as I start to drift off. As you can tell I’m post surgery in pain and knackered. My tolerance levels have crashed. Onwards and upwards xx sorry for the rant xx
Awh Bottyboo hope you got some sleep, snoring is the one thing that sends me over the edge!
Sarah, I do hope things settle for you soon it’s just another flippin *thing* to have to deal with :(. Under my arm started to give be bother yesterday and I only had snb so really feel for you it must be horrendous xx
Yes my underarm has been more painful last couple of days. I haven’t taken any tablets today but started the more advanced exercises yesterday. Lou x
Hi everyone it’s easing finally, am not taking medication now after bad reaction to the amitriptyline and they say gabapentin will make me like a zombie for a couple weeks!! I started back at work part time yesterday and having something else to think about helps. It’s now like 2 day old sunburn rather than oh my god I’ve fallen asleep for 8 hours in 40 degree burning sun with no sunblock on!! Hope you all have a good day xx
Glad the pain is subsiding Sarah x
Hi all, I’m still quite numb too but that I can cope with at least the burning is settling, fingers crossed we are all on the mend!! Xx
Hi everyone. I had full clearance today so will no doubt be coming on here to moan in the next few days and ask for advice. Feel fine just now though but await sunburn feeling (without the fun of being somewhere sunny).
Ruth
xx
Thanks for the tip Sarah. I’ll follow your lead. How did you find it doing the exercises in the first few days? I hope my drain will come out Friday.
Ruth x
Hi Ruth I was told not to exercise until the drain was out. Then for two weeks only the first set of exercises. The one where you put your arms out at the side was quite tricky. It pulled a lot, but it got easier. I’m onto the second set now and persevering with those. It was much easier once the drain was out. Hope you get through the next few days without too much trouble, Sarah x
Hi Ruth. I had my full clearance with therapeutic mammoplasty on Monday and have found the exercises not too bad. However because I had the mammoplasty at the same time I haven’t got a wound under my armpit they did the clearance through the other opening. I also have a pressure dressing on because it wouldn’t stop bleeding so am well padded there until tomorrow. Tramadol and paracetamol work for me too. I was worried because I sleep with my arm above my head. I do it whilst asleep but the physio said not to worry if it’s comfortable and I find that position quite good so if I’m aching a bit pop my arm up. Xx
Thanks both. I appreciate the advice. Will keep you posted on my progress and look forward to us all feeling better shortly. :smileyhappy:
