Post surgical lumps

Hello
I posted some weeks back to say that my breast had developed hard lumps around the two incisions. A few people replied to say that they had had this problem, but that the lumps had softened after a couple of weeks. I’m at 11 weeks now, and the lumps have not softened. Has anyone else had this? My surgeon did a terrible job – so much so that I have now swapped hospitals, which has caused enormous delays in to further treatment. Would be grateful to hear from someone who had similar problems, which eventually improved. the lumps feel so permanent now. I am massaging my breast, but nothing seems to be helping.
thank you

Hi Stoic65

Sorry to hear that you’re still having problems. Could I suggest that you give the helpline here a ring and have a chat with one of the nurses, they’re here to support you through this. Calls to the helpline are free, 0808 800 6000, lines open Mon-Fri 9-5 and Sat 10-2.

Also, I have moved your post from the ‘how to get started’ forum into the ‘undergoing surgery’ forum where I hope you will get more response.

Hope this helps. Take care,

Hiya,
I too have lumps on my scar line where i had WLE and i had my surgery 2 months ago. I’m more or less sure its scar tissue. i did put up a post on here regarding the same issue, not so long back, so i know where you are coming from. My boob still feels a bit tender at times but im sure its all normal. I think it takes a while for the scar and everything else to heal.
If you are worried then see your dr. i think i’ll get mine to check mine too.

I had my surgery last August and I still have lumps around the scar. My oncologist explained that the surgeon has to put stitches inside the breast to knit tissue together and thelumps are more likely to be scar tissue from this. I guess every tumour is different and the remodelling that has to be done inside the breast varies. My surgeon did a great job and I am learning to live with the lumps. Best to keep an eye on them but I don’t think they will ever be lump free following the surgery. I also get tenderness from time to time.

Hope this helps

Mine is lumpy too … i had surgery in January …I’m sure mine is a result of surgery (like others have said) but also radiotherapy and even an element of lymphodema…I’m not worried about it and will raise it when I see my surgeon again sometime this summer. My breast was very swollen after surgery from poor lymph drainage and an infection so I’m not surprised its still a bit lumpy!

Hiya… well i have just seen my onc today and she checked my lumps on my scar and she told me its seroma…so my advise is just get it checked to be on the safe side… x

Hi, just to let you all know. I had my lumps looked at and my onc said it was seroma, so nothing to worry about…
