Pregnant and looking to the future!

Hi All. Just wanted to give hope to all you women out there that pregnancy after cancer and chemotherapy is possible! I was diagnosed with aggressive non-hormonal breast cancer in Jan 2005, and underwent a lumpectomy, six cycles of FEC chemo, and radiotherapy. Whilst I had a Zoladex implant to protect my ovaries during chemo, I was starting to wonder if my reproductive system had been adversely affected by the chemo, as I had been trying to conceive without success for two years. However, I can now confirm that we are happily 5 weeks’ pregnant! We know it’s early days, but are absolutely thrilled! So, to all you ladies who may be facing the prospect of chemo or living with/after it, fertility after cancer is possible. Please do speak to your Oncologist about Zoladex and other fertility preservation options, as they can work. Good luck, and God Bless,

Thanks All for your replies. Pregnancy is going really well; currently 34 weeks pregnant with little girl, due September 2014. Deliriously happy and truly blessed,

Hi EAM28. How’s your treatment going? What type of breast cancer do you have and how old ate you? I am big fan of Zoladex, as truly believe it protected my ovaries from the toxicity of the chemo. I was only 29 when diagnosed and wanted to try and preserve my fertility, and thankfully they gave me Zoladex, as not all women are aware of it and its potential benefits. My FEC chemo regime was aggressive to deal with the beast, so think my ovaries may have been zapped without the protection Zoladex provided. Anyhoo, all’s well now. Had antenatal appointment last week and our little girl is perfectly normal and doing great for dates. Come mid-September, we’ll have our first child and, God willing, try for Number Two. If you have any queries or need advice at any stage of your treatment, drop me a line and I’ll try to help. God bless,

Hi cyclegal02, just got your post. The only real impact on my pregnancy of the chemo was my obstetrician writing a letter to my oncologist about recommendations re breastfeeding to affected breast, given previous operation, chemo and radio. All in all, this was the only major effect of the cancer and related treatment on my pregnancy; my affected breast did not produce milk. Other than that, the pregnancy and birth went well, and we now have adorable, healthy 10 month old daughter. How are you now?

Thank you skinnyminx, we are blessed to have a beautiful baby daughter,
