Hi all
I had a mastectomy last July with immediate LD flap reconstruction. Luckily I did not need an inplant and although it took me quite a long time to recover I was reasonably happy with the results. Anastrazole has been difficult but I am persevering! ! I had a marked indentation in the reconstructed breast which my surgeon said he could deal with using lipofilling. I had this done 2 weeks ago and nipple reconstruction at the same time. Although the first week was uncomfortable (especially the spanx!) things went downhill and I started to develop soreness, hard swelling and redness at the site of the breast where they were injected. This grew so I saw the consultant and he said it was either internal bleeding or fat necrosis. I am on 7 days 4 times a day 500 mg flucloxacillin due to end Wednesday and I see him again Friday. So far the anti biotics have had little effect and it is very sore and feels horrid. I had planned to go back to work but that is not possible as I feel generally unwell. Going back earlier to see him seems a waste of time as I am sure he will just say wait till the end of the treatment. Has anyone experienced this? I can’t find any information about fat necrosis in this sort of situation so am pretty confused , fed up and frustrated!!

Hi Jayne,
I had lipomodelling to my reconstructed breast just over 3 weeks ago (also had LD flap and immediate recon just over 2 years ago) and have an appt to go back at the beginning of august to see how things are settling. So far it all seems ok thankfully. I’m a little concerned about a slightly hard area on my tummy and also a lumpy area that has appeared under and to the side of my breast but I hope it’s just still bruising/ swelling and it’ll go down.
There is not a lot of info on this procedure at all is there? I asked my surgeon some questions regarding numbness, hardness etc after the op and was told there could be some and it might or might now go away in time.
I am still having pain/tenderness on my tum and sides and overall my body feels very strange to the touch and not nice :0(
The though of perhaps having to go through it again some time down the line if too much of the fat is reaborbed does not fill me with joy. I don’t know if I would. I’ve still to get nipple recon or tatooing…at the moment I am thinking tatooing.
Hating wearing the big undies (which I have been told is for 6 weeks).
I’m sorry to hear you have been having a worse time with your recent op Jayne.
I hope things get better very soon for you and that you feel well enough to get back to work.
I just though it was worth posting something in support cos I know what it’s like.

Hi Fhi
Thanks for adding your experiences and yes information is scant and my consultant was very low key about the whole procedure. Like you I am not sure whether I would go through this again. We will both just have to see how things look when it’s all settled and keep our fingers crossed! ! I just wish this blasted infection would clear up. I think I am going to be really pleased with the nipple recon - it seems to be settling well and is a good match albeit larger till it settles. It makes an enormous difference and makes the reconstructed breast look less “reconstructed” if you get what I mean!!
Take care with your recovery Fhi

Hello Jayne, I’m sorry that I don’t have any experience of your specific situation though I’ve had my own issues.
The reason I’m replying is that I gave some day necrosis. It’s a bit hard and uncomfortable but not really a major problem. I’m worried you gave an infection and it may be that you need more /different antibiotics. This is a risk of this procedure and your discomfort and general feeling of being unwell are signs of possible infection. Do go back and seek help. If you develop a temp go straight away. You could also ring the Helpline. Good luck, xx
