Problems after treatment has finished

Hi has anyone had problems with infections, skin reddening and pain after treatment has finished.??

I had chemo in feb- may 08 then lunpectomy and an infection so the wound took a while to heal then rads which finished in sept08.

I am now back at work and my breast has become quite painful tender and started to go red near the scar, also a bit of orange peel skin.

I have seen my GP who has given me antibiotics and wants to see me next week??

Due to see breast surgeon in Jan 09.

Anyone had any thing similar???

Sorry I cant help you Sarah as I healed quickly.Perhaps the wound infection and then the radio has all been too much as it sounds like you’ve got another infection.I’m sure there are girls on here who’ve experienced similar - if only they’d come on line and give you the benefit of their experience!!

Hi Sarah,
I have had repeated infection in one area of my wound which my doctors have all seen and given me antibiotics for.by the time I get an appointment with a surgeon the wound has temporarily healed and there is nothing to see .Don’t know what to do .I feel worried there must be some reason why it hasn’t healed by now .the rest of the scar healed within one month.I finished chemo then radio in July .Sorry I can’t really help ,maybe someone else has been through this and got it resolved

Hi Sarah,
Did you have any lymph nodes removed? I had breast tenderness and the orange peel effect but it turned out to be slight lymphoedema of the breast.
But you’re also still a relatively short time since your surgery! Rads can also cause redness. No answers I’m afraid but a couple of possibles. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

Hi Sarah,

It took about 6 months for my breast to settle down after the rads. Red then flaky skin then discoloured and slightly swollen. Its almost back to normal apart from the big dint. My rads ended Feb 08.

Sorry to hear that you are going through what I am wouldnt wish it on anyone had radical masectomy lymph nodes were removed on 5th dec 07 chemo finished may 08 radiotherapy finished july 08even although my wound hadnt healed (typical redhead bad healer) totally at the end of radiotherapy my wound had almost opened completely and got burned inside the wound now on herceprin and wound is almost healed though get frequent infections I can usually tell when an infection is starting as the wound and the bit of scar that did heal get sore red and orange peel effect district nurses then swab to get the right antibiotic. I also have lymphodema saw breast surgeon 2 months ago and although I still have an open wound it will get there just take time. Hope your feeling better soon take care Love Diane x
