Hello
I had reconstruction surgery in February, I had a tram flap reconstruction (from my stomach). The operation was more traumatic and invasive than I expected. I was told by my surgeons that it was a huge op but having sailed through my mastectomy I foolishly didn’t listen. Anyway it was worth it as my new breast is great. But I am still having problems with my stomach, I am very jealous when I read postings from women who now have flat stomach after their ops. My stomach swollen and sore and I have a small hole in my tummy button, so 8 months on I am still wearing a dressing. I am due to go back into hospital on the 4th October for day surgery. But would love to hear from anyone who’s op didn’t go quite according to plan xxx.
Hiya
sorry to hear you havent done so well. I had the back flap recon on 13th August and unfortunately mine went a bit foenhill afyerwards. The stitches pulled apart near my armpit and I went on to get 3 bacterias in the wound one which was pretty nasty and needed specific antibiotics. The infection then spread to the back wound. I was back and forth to the hospital (over an hour from me) every week - fluid drained each time but noone referred me to plastic surgeon until my mum had had enough and called his secretary direct. As soon as I saw him I was adnited that day for the wound to be cleaned and restitched. I feel much better now the infection has gone - still have stitches for at least another week - they may come out next thurs. Still having dressings at gp every other day as well. I like you was so disappointed - not with the look of the recon as it does look great from front (cant see rest till dressing comes off) - I have 2 friends one had hers done 9 weeks before me and the other the week after and they have had none of the probs i have. At first didnt want to tell them as felt so awful mine had gone wrong - but i did eventualy call and then see them at our monthly support meeting - so wasnt as bad as I thought. Will be glad to finally be able to lie in a bath and wash properly!
Hope all goes well on 4th for you - mine apparently looks great according to nurses under dressing and is now doing well so hopefully an extra op was worth it!
take care
Tina xx
