prostap

I don’t know if anyone will know, I am due to have prostap injections for fibroids. I go to family history clinic for regular mammograms, as three women in my immediate family have had breast cancer. Prostap is a hormonal drug, giving a surge of oestrogen in the first injection before damping it down and putting me into a temporary menopause for six months. Is there a risk that this drug may click in mutant gene?

Hi Anne, I had prostap for nearly 5 years…to keep me in a chemically induced menopause so I could have certain cancer treatments, plus my bc is er+. Just after the first injection, about 2 weeks later, I had a period…think this normal, most seem to get a period quite quickly…guess that’s the oestrogen surge…as it certainly didn’t seem like a normal period. I had monthly injections and at one point was changed to 3 monthly slow release injections but I found towards the end of the 3 months I was starting to feel pre-meno again so I was changed back to monthly jabs. I have a family history although no BRCA gene too…I don’t think the jab would interact with any rogue gene but could you ask the clinic? Good Luck…I didn’t have any side effects at all.
