Prosthesis - HELP

Prosthesis - HELP I had mastectomy in March and surgeon said she would do recon in Sept - but this has not been confirmed

I am only small - 32b and am currently wearing a soft lightweight comfie.

How do you get away from the ‘gap’ which you always seem to get when you bend over (comfie never stays close to your chest wall). Do girls wear clothes that you have worn before? I am worrying about having to get high necked tops to wear for when I return to work as I am frightened of bending over.

Message for Vezza Hi Karen,
I do wear clothes that I’ve worn before although I have put on weight and have had to buy more clothes, in bigger sizes! However, I know what you mean as I do experience the same problem. I get round it by wearing a close-fitting vest top underneath most of my clothes. This may not be ideal but it’s the only way I’ve got round this issue. Also, I tend to wear sports bras so everything is held in as much as poss.

Good luck with hearing about your operation date soon,
BethXX

Hi Karen,

I agree with Beth and wear sports bras. Always a difficult one but at least yours do not float away when you went swimming!! Yes mine did but I had to giggle as it looked a bit like a brown sharks fin and did cause a few stares.
Keep smiling and hugs to you both.

Help at hand Karen,
Have you asked at the hospital whether they pocket your own bras, I had mine done at Stepping Hill hosp they were fantastic, they offer this service free of charge, also John Lewis the store also offer this free if you buy one of their bras, I also wore a vest type top underneath my clothes, it also changes the way you look, it can make your clothes look really good as this is the new look!!
or you could pin it to your bra.

good luck

adhesive Amoena may be an answer.

Hi Karen

I know what you mean i’m was always worried about leaning over and people seeing my prosthesis. Untill that is i found a great mastecomy bra that has a camisole section on the front. so when you bend over it keeps everything in place and not showing. The camisole bit is made of lace. I wear it under vest tops and you wouldn’t know its any thing but the real thing. Most companies sell them but try Ameona, they are very good. I do now avoid very low tops but can wear alot of what i used to wear. I tend to wear vest tops under things to make me feel a bit more secure. You could think of it as an excuse to buy more clothes!

Good luck with it.
