Pulsating tinnitus - side effect?

Hi,

I finished my chemo mid December but have had a horrible pulsating in my ears for the last month. I have had a cold but the pulsing was here before the cold and has remained after the cold has cleared up. Has anyone else suffered with this? Is there any cure for it? It is driving me mad!

Hi Kate,

Just a thought … Have you had your blood pressure checked out lately? Might be worth mentioning it to your GP?

Hope it gets better soon

Hi, I don’t know if this is similar and I haven’t had chemo…however I had intermittent tinnitus for several weeks and it was horrid.

Had a mx and DIEP recon end of November, then high doses of antibiotics for a month for an infection in the tissue. After three weeks antibiotics I started to get a sort of buzzing, like a swarm of crickets in my ear or on my shoulder! I even looked ivermectin my shoulder in case!! It started to come on more and more often and made me feel unbalanced because it was so sudden.

Told GP about it and he said it can be a side effect of large doses of antibiotics…or it could be wax in the ear. He told me to wait and see after the antibiotics were finished. There isn’t a cure for actual chronic tinnitus but there are a lot of causes and some like mine are temporary. Mines gone now, ive been off the antibs for a month. it could have been either cause…I used ear drops to dissolve wax if there had been any. Might be worth checking with GP for peace of mind.

Hi Kate, I have had Tinnutus like you describe for well over a year now and nothing helps. I had my last chemo over 2 years ago but am starting again any day now. I have low blood pressure and no wax in ear and had my hearing checked out at the hospital. I do have a slight problem hearing some sounds but do not need a hearing aid.
What I do is to try to mask the pulsating noise which is worse when the room is quiet. At bedtime it is usually at its worst so I wear earphones and listen to my radio live 5 at night so I can hide the really annoying noise. I do find that you can get more used to it but I never thought I would at the time as it drove me crazy.
I now also have a floater in my eye and keep trying to bat a black fly/spider away that isn’t there!! Old age doesn’t come easy! But I know some tinnutus does go away so hope it is the same for you. Love Val

Thanks everyone, I have spoken to my BC nurse who is going to speak to my Onc and get back to me about what it might be. All sort run through my head about what it might be so I just want to be reassured it is nothing to worry about.

Thanks again,

Kate xx
