Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham getting Cyberknife

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham have decided to get Cyberknife, and are raising funds for this. Trustee’s of The Stan Bowley Cyberknife Trust, attended a meeting about this and presented a cheque for £10,000, and the Hospital Charity are now busy raising funds.
Stereotactic radiotherapy is amazing technology that is so precise it can be used at a curative dose - which means it can significantly delay the progression of cancer. The National Radiotherapy Implememntation Group produced a report at the beginning of June which recommended funding of this treatment (particularly within a clinical trial setting), and the Government have just accepted the recommedations.
Mount Vernon, The Royal Marsden, Barts, and St. James Hospitals have already purchased this technology, and Derrisforn and Queen Elizabeth are committed to getting it … so watch this space.

Great to great this update on Birmingham. I know that Nottingham nearly got Cyberknife but has gone for Tomotherapy instead - still waiting for it to be commissioned but thought it was worth sharing this as so far my Oncs are not interested in helping me with the Tomotherapy when it is operational so will keep up the pressure - and hope others will too.

Hello,

Just noticed the thread and wanted to let you know that the Queen Elizabeth Hospital is also getting two TomoTherapy HD machines as well as a Cyberknife machine.

Good luck with your treatments.
