quick question about colds

I had my first FEC two weeks ago and have woken up this morning with a cold. (runny nose, cough, head ache etc.) Its not too bad, ordinarily, I wouldn’t give it a second thought, but of course now Im worrying, will it interfere with muy next treatment, due Fri.?
Has anyone had this? Or have any advice?

Hi Tree

hopefully it would have worn off a bit by Fri. These things can delay chemo, but 5 days is enuf for it to be ok.

Hi

Totally agree should be fine for fri.

Had a cold too and was just told to keep an eye on my temp, just in case you get a chest infection or similar, if it goes up get in touch with the team but i was fine with it just floored me for a few days, they said it can hit you harder when you have chemo but hopefully not if ti’s just been your first i was one from the end and really exhausted anyway. Didn’t delay my last so was okay.

If your temp goes up (38 Celsius or above) you should call your Chemo team, a cold as such wouldn’t stop Chemo, only if your bloods are not within range could that mean a delay for you. Hope you are better soon!

Hi,

Every sniffle or anything my chemo team had me call up and get my bloods checked. Be careful if you’re taking any decongestants containing paracetamol as this will lower your temp and mask any problems.

Hi Tree,
I was just like you and picked up a cold the 2nd weeek after my 1st chemo, and could not shake it off for almost the rest of all my treatments - I had 4 FEC/4 TAX. It never stopped any of my treatments, because luckily my bloods were always ok for each cycle.
As other people have said, just keep an eye on your temperature so you dont get any infections. Hopefully your cold wont last as long as mine did, as that in itself can make you feel down let alone having chemo at the same time!
Good luck to you, and hope you feel better soon
Take care

Thanks very much for your replies everyone. x

Hey Tree

Hope you shake the cold soon. I was still at the end of my two-week cold when I had cycle 2, still had a cough. It seemed by then the decision to go ahead or not was entirely down to blood. I think it’s probably decided on a case-by-case basis, depending on how much your onc thinks you can take!

Get as much rest as you can, it’s much quicker to sleep off a horrible cold than soldier on through it. xxxx jane
