Radio above collarbone

Hi there,
Can’t seem to find anything about radio to lymph nodes above collarbone. How many? What to expect side effectwise? Back to see onc on Fri for results of ct and bone scan to confirm if its a regional recurrence or secondary.
And all came from a weak, cold hand that was struggling to do fiddly things like buttons… Same side as breast cancer, but had bilat mast, lymphnodes under arm removed, chemo amd radio after diagnosis not quite 2 years ago.
Back to the nightmare… So hopefully radio is option if only there so any info would be great. Thanks x

Hi…what a bummer. Why can’t this cancer malarkey just bog off!

Don’t know if this helps, but I’ve not long finished rads to the whole chest and supraclavicular nodes as part of adjuvant treatment for high risk of recurrence. I’m supposing you just had the chest wall done before?

No probs at all during the treatment, not even skin probs. Finished last week. Bit of tingling in my neck and ‘bad arm’ side yesterday but it seems to have mostly gone now. I had 45Gy fractioned over 20 sessions but of course it might be different for recurrence than prevention.

Let us know how things go on Friday. Bet it seems like a lifetime away

Hi dmoore!

Just had (2 months ago) rads you mentioned - under arm, across collarbone and up my neck - for regional recurrance in lymph nodes after bc.early 08. I had max. dose, so about 2/3 weeks after it really flared up - it looked like my neck and collarbone area had been savaged by a small fierce animal! Redness, v.sore(needed painkillers for a few days), crusty and weeping - not nice! After about a week like this it calmed down and now, about a month later, just a brown mark. I had a scan 3 weeks ago and more-or-less all gone, so v.successful, although I very much hesitate to say I’m cured - that is very doubtful, still, for the time being…fine. But, I also did have 6 months of weekly chemo. before all this, which didn’t shrink them much, so you may well have something like that and I would be lying if I said that was OK as you probably know.

Let us know what happens,

All the best,

Sarah.

Thanks. How many Radio did you have? I had three weeks worth of rads to chest wall after chemo and remember the soreness all too well. They haven’t mentioned chemo unless its spread but really can’t bear the thought at this moment in time.
Totally fab its worked for you, I’ll keep that in mind this week before d day on Friday. Thanks again, Diane x

Hi,

Just replied to your other thread and then seen this. I had rads to the lymph nodes above collarbone (and under arm and breast, no op for me), too!! Just finished that last Fri, 25 sessions in total. (could be 20, but was worried that it may aggregate my lymphoedema, so spread it out to 25, which a smaller dose in each session.) I had the max allowed dose to the area as the last blast to kill off the remaining active areas that have escaped chemo.

SE not too bad, apart from the normal ones like skin and tiredness.

Let me know if you have any more questions. xx

Hi dmoore!

I had 15 sessions over 3 weeks. Any questions, please feel free to ask.

All the best,
Sarah.

Well, just to let you know it hasn’t spread, but docs have decided that I need chemo before any radio. Now to get on with it… They better get me booked in fast! Thanks again for all info. x

Hello

I’m in a similar situ to you, presently having chemo (6 x Abraxane) for a regional recurrance (original dx June 09) I’ve a ‘cluster’ of small tumours on my mx side just under my collarbone close to the top of my armpit. I’m unsure as to whether I will be having rads, I’m assuming they will make a decision after my chemo has finished.

I’d be interested to hear your treatment plan once it’s in place and wish you the best of luck.

Claire x
