Hi, I am having Radio after my surgery and chemo in december, can you tell me if the SE’s ARE AS bad as chemo ones?
I found radio a complete doddle after chemo, didn’t seem to affect me at all. Everyone is different though but I’m sure most people will say radio isn’t as bad as chemo. Keep your mind focussed on the end of your treatment, you’re nearly there ![]()

Doddle? Walk in the park?
Just had my burns assesed again. I’m sure they aren’t real though, it’s just radiotherapy. Yeah right!!
Hi Slinky
I got very tired - but I had an hour’s drive each way and had to set off at 7.30am most mornings.
My skin got red and ‘hot’, but I didn’t have any skin breakdown.
Overall it was much better than chemo.
Good luck!

Hi Slinky
I had 30 rads, following 9 sessions of chemo, and I would not say it was a walk in the park or a doodle but the se’s were not so bad as chemo.
It was very tiring as I had a 50 mile round trip every day and I did have very sore, broken skin after the boosters.Nurses were very good with the treatments and gave me dressings and gels to help with the burning. It was not pleasant but cleared up after 3 weeks.
Start moisturising your skin where you are to have the treatment well in advance and ensure you drink plenty of fluids during treatment.
Good luck and there are a couple of threads running on here with lots of tips.

hi just finished Rads,15 over 3 weeks, next to chemo it was much much easier, the going every day is tiring , my skin is a little red but not too bad as yet.
Like already said it signals the end of a long and difficult journey,
Good Luck. xx
Hiya
I agree with Lucinda - I’m almost at the end of 30 doses and I haven’t found it that easy. I was also diagnosed with a recurrence, though, having finished chemotherapy 2 1/2 years ago, so my circumstances may be a little different anyway.
My skin is really sore now and very, very red! I did think that I was going to escape the SEs when after 15 sessions I didn’t really have any skin reaction at all - but no chance! Do speak to the nurses if your skin starts to itch, or blister - it is common for your underarm and the skin under your breast to blister - as they will have dressings/creams to help ease the effects. And remember to take a nap if you feel at all tired if you can.
All the very best
