Hi All
I finished 6 weeks of Radiotherapy in September of this year but I was lucky enough not to have any Chemo. I had the usual side effects a few burns and tiredness and the tiredness affects me still now but apart from that i am fully
recoverd. my question is do you think that my imune system would have recoverd by now? my Daughter and Granchildren are comming for Christmas and today my
Grandson came out in Chicken Pox. I had it as a child but if my imune system is under parr does any one know if I could catch it and get Shingles.I am so Sad as I really want them to be here for Christmas but so much has happend to me this year I dont want to top it of with Shingles

Hi Tina57
It might be a good idea to give the helpline a ring to discuss this, there can offer support and information on these types of issues.
Everyone on our helpline either has experience of breast cancer or is a breast care nurse and the team comes from a variety of backgrounds, so you will get to talk to someone who has an understanding of the issues you’re facing.
The helpline is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturdays 9am to 2pm. The number is free phone 0808 800 6000.
I do hope this is of some help to you.
Kind regards
Louise

HI Tina57
I am no expert but I didn’t think radiotherapy affected your immune system like chemotherapy does. Do ring the helpline and check but in your shoes I think I’d see those grandchildren!
Good luck and have a great Christmas.
Dilys
Hi Tina57
Like Dilys I didn’t think radiotheraphy affected your immune system. Obviously chemotherapy does, but I had rads for 5 weeks and apart from some skin problems right at the end, I felt completely normal and worked through out the whole time. So see your grandchildren and enjoy them.
Hi I had shingles earlier in year and was told you cant catch shingles from someone with chicken pox but you can catch chicken pox from someone with shingles if you haven’t had the infection and aren’t immune.
hi tina
I had to go to the dentist during treatment and explained to the dentist that I was on chemo so had to be careful re: defenses and he told me that you can be vulnerable on radio too …
So you may have to be a bit careful - assuming he knew what he was talking about… he seems quite good on the teeth front … but you never know! , sorting cancer-treatment-fact-from-fiction is a nightmare

PS Living dangerously and eating cream cheese now i’ve finished!
