Just finished radiotherapy this morning. Had 15 and 5 boosters. Unfortunately underneath my boob has split and not happy as go to Ibiza on Friday. Will definitely not be able to go in the pool (too much chemicals) but I am going to see how it goes in the sea. Taking plently of cream and dressings with me.
Now on my own as triple negative and haven’t to see my onc for 6 weeks…feels really strange knowing that the rest of the week is ‘free’!
Going back to work on the 1st Oct, part time at first. To be honest I am really looking forward to it as my brain needs stimulation!
FixBix…hope you are feeling better and roll on til the end of your treatment.
It would probably be a good idea to give your breast care nurse a ring to get some advice about going in the sea and taking care of your skin in the sun.
Had lots of advice from the radiotherapy gang with regards to swimming and sun bathing. Got factor 50 and t-shirts and loads of moisturisers! Only going to get my legs and arms brown! I am pretty sensible and won’t overdo it! Will keep a good eye on the split ( approx 1" long). I have been given some aquaform gel by the hospital so hopefully the wound will have healed a bit by friday.
Glad to hear that you’ve completed your rads - it’s great to get to the end of it isn’t it, but at the same time strange to not be going to the hospital every day… I went back to work full time the day after I finished mine.
I finished mine in April and with regards to the sun bathing I was told to be very careful with my ‘at risk’ arm for the rest of this year.
Might want to double check with the BCN or the rads team before sunbathing an short sleeves… a pain I know but better safe than sorry.
Hi anita 67. i too finished radio last week yipee . I go to Spain this Sat i can’t wait, i too have radio burns to underneath of breast and have been told not to swim, it is healing nicely and i did think about taking some waterproof dressings with me and chancing the pool, it is my dads private pool so not as bad as a public one. I don’t think i could sit on the side and just watch my kids splashing around and not join in!!
Isn’t it great to be finished, i too go back to work in oct, seeing occ health tomorrow, will do 3 days a week to start and use up some of my annual leave.Have appoint to see onc consultant in 6 weeks too.
Hi Everyone
I had my last radio today. Yippee. I am triple negative and next appointment is November as a follow up. It will seem strange not to be dragging into the hospital every day, one hour drive each way. Went on the bus today as hubby was away, two buses in each direction I was out for a total of six hours for 30 minutes at the hospital.
I’m off to Crete in three weeks time and have been advised not to go into the sun at all!!! Mainly because of chemo which finished in June. I have factor 50 sun cream and a surfing T-shirt which is 50spf, I was also advised to wear high necked, long sleeved tops, and to take antibiotics with me in case I get a mozie bite or an infection in my bad arm. Have been referred to the Lymphodeama (spelling?) clinic next week as I have also been advised to wear a support sleeve when flying.
I missed this thread - sorry - no time at all to do anything properly will rads due to the three hours lost ofr treatment and lunch and then the sleeping!
Soooooooooo pleased for you and hope your holiday has gone really really welll - being FFFREEEEEEE!!! whoppee!!!
I’m a triple negger too and I know we’re on our own a bit but frankly I’ll be glad not to be reminded of it every day - I just want to get on with my life and forget it ever happened.
Back from Ibiza last night to a lovely sunny Lancashire! We had 3 days of rain on holiday but I certainly felt like I had a rest. The stressy feelings have subsided and hopefully I will be able to manage them better.
The split under the boob went worse and due to being sweaty most of the time and I struggled to keep it dry. I didn’t swim (paddled up to my bum) and made sure I cleaned the area every day but it didn’t half pong! Its a lot better now and will heal ok.
Back to work on Wednesday 1st October and I certainly am looking forward to filling my brain with ‘other’ thoughts.
I had some bad news this morning that the lady who lives next door to my brother who had BC sadly passed away just before I went on holiday and my family kept the news from me as not to upset me. I did meet Diane a few times on my chemo sessions and although I didn’t know her well I certainly felt a ‘connection’
(as we all do with our fellow BC soldiers) and feel so sad.
