Well ive gone through WLE & SNB, then had chemo, then Mx with full clearance, then more surgery for haematoma, and now started my radiotherapy, ive had 13 and now of for my last 7 which are all bolus with the pack on,
now im not one to moan but because i still have a pocket of seroma under my arm, i must say im so sore and cannot bear to wear a bra so ive been living in baggy cotton shirts, looking like grandad from charlie and the chocolate factory comes to mind !!!
ive been told i can only use acureous cream and nothing else,
im terrified that these last 7 are going to finish me of, i bought aloe vera and was told not to use it, im taking painkillers all the time plus Gabapentine,
sorry for moaning but really fed up with it all…
did anyone get worse while having the bolus or even booster
oh hun, know where your coming from, dont give up! i had 20 rads and 5 boosters. skin held up till having the boosters. was told like u to just use aqueous. was rubbish. used aloe gel and xtra virgin olive oil as skin was so dry and sore. had a small area of broken, weeping skin that i covered with a bit of clean muslin cloth til healed. i didnt waer a bra just a vest top with inbuilt support(asda, dead cheap) i finished rads end of july. my skin is totally back to normal. hubby says even looks better! must have been the extra moisturising! good luck and thinking of u! ps, been on hol since and wasnt as good as i was told about keeping boob out of sun. i had a fab time.
Hiya I had 15 rads plus 8 boosters, I slathered on the aqueous every day as much as I could possibly get in the skin. I was lucky and had no breaken sking, burns etc but I did get very tired and still am.
Hi. I had 15 rads with bolus… used AV gel as soon as the treatment was over, and then Arbonne body lotion for kids (got that approved, as basically they approve anything for babies, and it had a picture of a baby on it!) I bought it cause when I tried it, I could feel it cooling… finished nearly a week ago, and the area is red, and sunburnt, with what look like blood bliseters under teh skin, but it’s not sore or broken, and, so far, I’ve not been too tired, (famous last words of course!) Still weary from the chemo and everything, but no worse… Jane
I so know how you all feel. I am having my last rads today, I have had 30 sessions all my skin under armpit has blistered,skin under boob raw red where blisters burst. Am having burns cleaned and re-dressed every day by radiologist .I am sick of smiling & telling People that I am fine. I’m not, and am in pain. …sorry, I didn’t mean to sound like a wingebag…to all of you having rads I want to send you a HUGE hug.xxxxo
I understand how you feel. I had mastectomy and chemotherapy and was told the radiotherapy would be a doddle compared to all that, and it was, but at the end of the 25 treatments my mastectomy scar became infected and weeping. It was so painful I ended up in A&E and was admitted immediately for intravenous antibiotics. They kept me in for two days and the recovery was instantaneous. I had to go back to the hospital for daily dressings etc but it cleared up so quickly and I was painfree almost immediately. There were no long lasting affects either. So hang on in there - you will be fine when it’s all done and dusted! Good luck xxx
CricketDi, like you my scar, which had healed nicely,is now just raw flesh & sooo sore. Have been given antibiotics by tablet. I am only day 3 post rads, please tell me the wounds get better…sorry to hear that u were so poorly with it all…x
A Bolus is a thing which replicates skin and tissue when irradiated and is used to modify the dose of radiation at the skin surface.
I had the first 2 weeks treatment using the bolus and my skin was ok but since they have stopped using it my skin has been quite hot and sore.
Eltticks, ive been asked if i want to be part of a trial with rads as well, probably the same one as u where they put the boosters in with the normal doses (i think!) I have to read up on all the gumph to decide whether i want to do it or not though it’ll be a while yet as only started chemo last week.
thanks for the link Elttiks, i’ll have a read. I might have got it wrong about the boosters, i only had a quick look .I know they told me it was called Import trial but ive put the papers somewhere safe!! I just need to locate them again,lol.
