Has anyone had a phone appointment first before any in person for radiotherapy. Any idea of timescales too im trying to see about retuning to work but obviously if its going to be soon may wait till after.

Yes I had one about two weeks before my radiotherapy planning session and I’m pretty sure it was before I received the planning appointment but the person I spoke to told me roughly when it was would start , how many treatments I would having and took a history from me. I was also sent a link to click with instructions on how to do a breath hold and exercises to do post - radiotherapy which were similar to the post-operative ones but a bit more dynamic . Xx
@JoanneN thanks for your reply . Can you remember how long after planning one the radiotherapy starts. Just trying to get rough timescale. How was you after radiotherapy. Thanks

I had oncology then 2 weeks later radiotherapy planning appointment. I was given 2 further appointments at the planning. 24th September telephone appointment and 25th 1st radiotherapy and all other appointments (im to have 15) to be given at 1st radiotherapy. Its not very helpful for planning the next 3/4 weeks but i believe appointments are at a similar time each day, so im working around that but i could be wrong!
@susynight thanks for your reply hopefully ill kno more when they call. Seens to be different in different areas too how things are done .

Yes definitely varies by the look of things. Hopefully youll hear soon!
Mine is a 4 week wait between planning appointment/scan and actually starting my 3 weeks of radio.
And my appointments for radio are all over the place - definitely not the same time every day!
Thanks for your reply @filibuster64 . That seems a long time . Pain too appointments all over place. Not good for other commitments or work etc. Ill get the call and hopefully know more . Was yours a phone appointment first . ?
No, I just had a radio oncologist appointment, then a planning appointment where they did a scan, tattoos and gave me all my dates.
The nurse at my planning appt said she could move a few of my times to early morning - they’re often quieter then - but that didn’t work great for me with 2 young children so I’ve left them as they are
Oh right must be so difficult with young children. Mine are grown up so its just knowing when ill be returning to work be it before or after radiotherapy depending how long away it is.
The wait and the lack of control is the hardest thing isn’t it. I can’t wait to be able to plan things again!
Yes thats definitely how i feel.
Im not sure now if I’ve misremembered the order of of it all but I had the Oncology and planning done on the same day and the treatment started about two weeks after xx

I had my oncology appointment on 16th September. Have to go for a planning appointment with CT scan for position/tattoo etc on 25th September. Will start 5 days of radiotherapy on 9th October, which due to weekend interruption will be until 15th. Attending at 8am daily at my request as intend to work throughout (I’ve arranged to work from home on these days to allow for increased flexibility as needed).
I’ve found working during all of this period in my life better for my mental health and keeping things as normal as I can. Will also be starting tamoxifen so not sure how that will go either.
