Those who have had their radiotherapy already - how soon did you get a skin reaction? Does everyone get a reaction?
I had 5 high doses, most of breast was fine, nipple and areola sore by end of 5 sessions. At 3 weeks the underside (only) of breast began getting redder. It’s very sore now because I think it’s starting to blister/peel.
I think the reaction varies between people, some more sensitive than others. Keep applying moisturiser!
Hi
I am 4 weeks since having full breast treatment and 3 weeks since last boost. I have not had any skin reaction at all. I have moisturised 3 times daily with flamigel. No fatigue either.
@sal1 and @bigpickle thanks both of you. I’m having 5 high doses too. Like the chemotherapy it seems that reactions and side effects are very individual
@JoanneN Good call, they think its thrush. Not something I’m prone to, so wasn’t expecting that. Nurse said the radiotherapy has basically weakened the skin and made it more vulnerable. She’s given me Caneston to get started, so hopefully there will an improvement in a few days.
Yes I hope it does improve for you soon. I will my keep:crossed_fingers:for you Sal . Xx
Hi there, i go later today for my CT scan to then get my radiotherapy dates.
Im super nervous tbh but thankbyou fir the skin care tips.
Hope all continues well for you
Best of luck - mine all starts next week.
Thanks for the tips. Hope everything goes well with your treatment. Stay positive
I start 15 sessions of radiotherapy Monday, thank you for the top tips. I have sensitive skin so will try products mentioned and definitely keep them in the fridge.
Oncologist today also advised placing a silk scarf between breast and bra to relieve irritation.
CAN I ASK. ANYONE EXPERIENCED SWELLING DURING/POST radiotherapy??
If you have sensitive skin worth asking for the blue canisten option much milder for sensitive skin.
My breast was (and still is) marginally larger. Which is an odd concept since a chunk has been removed!
I still can not get my head around all the extra “surprises” that breast cancer brings with it. Atleast the caneston has stopped the itching, one less thing to think about.
If you get irritation and itching a lot from radiotherapy the nurse told me to take antihistamines and they worked brilliantly stopped the itching completely. That was after my first cancer diagnosis, didn’t have any problems this second time i was diagnosed which was 10 yrs after the first one
Yes it weird I know . Glad that Canestan is working xx
I used Aloe Vera natural Gel which I got from Amazon - it was absolutely amazing - cooling and moisturising - I had 5 day intensive radiotherapy on both breasts, and I am also ginger! And that does make a difference, as I try to avoid sun! I still use it now.
my worst part was breathing in full and holding breath for 30seconds with arms above my head sounds easy but just practiced.
Good luck with it all
Sx
Hey,
Good luck with radiotherapy. I had it twice as later found in the other breast. Got a bit sunburnt by the end of it. Used aloe Vera straight from the plant and kept in the fridge. Please stay away from anything with parabens. I strongly recommend Moo Goo available at Holland and Barrett. And organic rosehip oil rather than anything perfumed, even bio oil has perfume and retinol which can be too strong on this very sensitive skin.
Thank you for this
I also use a moogoo cream i was recommended it from little boxes.
I also use tamanu balm from tropic and my radiotherapist was pleased how it helped my breast during radiotherapy
I also check any cream products with the app called yuka. I was surprised what it shows is in the creams
I use Ahava cream. Made in Israel from Dead Sea water and other mineral salts. The best moisturiser I’ve ever used. Quite expensive £29 ish but well worth it.
Natural aloe vera for moisturizer is good because it doesn’t have any EDC.
