Radiotherapy Tattoos
Radiotherapy Tattoos Has anyone experience of having the tattoos removed? I really did not want them but gave in to pressure from the radiotherapists who told me that they offered a free removel service later. After my RT I asked again and nobody know anything about it. According to my nurse most womenjust live with them. I have two which are on my collarbone which I feel are very obvious when I wear an open necked shirt or T shirt. Has anyone had them removed on the NHS? Laser or core biopsy?
I am having them removed I decided as it was free I would get them removed. I have two tattos in my cleavage which look like mouldy blackheads! and the rest would be hidden fine under clothes.
I went for the treatment, which isn’t bad it just feels like someone is twanging you with an elastic band, but was then told I would have to keep going back until the tattos had gone or until I’m happy with what was left. They suggested I needed about 6 sessions and you need to wait 6 weeks inbetween each session.
When I went they told me I could blister with the treatment, bleed or my skin colour could change in that area. None of which has happened so far.
I’m deciding whether or not to carry on with the treatment. It seems such a lot of effort for just a few blue dots!
Hope this helps.

Radiotherapy Tattoos Thanks Karen,
Was this laser? There seems to be a choice between laser and a core biopsy but I suspect this would leave a scar which kind of defeats the object…
Hi Judie
I had my tattoos removed at the Laserase clinic attached to one of the local hospitals. I had seven altogether, the three down the centre front were black and ( to me anyway) quite big and noticeable. The treatment was free and it took three or four attempts before they were gone. There was a leaflet in the changing room at the radiotherapy department offering this so I just rang up at the end of the course of radiotherapy and arranged it directly with them. Didn’t really hurt just a momentary stinging then over a week or so they went a bit red then I had to wait a month or so before going back. Might be worth ringing Laserase yourself if you have one near you.
best wishes

Tattoos Like you I don’t want the black spot! however my idea is to have a nice tattoo over the top. Not done it yet waiting for breast to get back to normal. hope you get yours resolved. love from Nononsense
Reply to Judie63 I had laser treatment not sure what a core biopsy is?
Karen
Don’t think ‘core biopsy’ is meant here. A core biopsy is when they extract a small piece of tissue from the ‘core’ of a suspicious lump (from inside the breast, or wherever) to send to the path lab for analysis.
